(Origin) I can't launch Mass Effect 2, nor download game add-ons

Well I have the same issue and it is related to your Servers and not Origin or the Game.

the Issue is plain simple: The game was once installed with DLCs (be it free or stuff you paid for) but some DLCs simply can not get installed (as they would, normaly automaticaly) thus the Game remains "incomplete" (we can't Play it).

I would like to attach a Picture directly but I can't (wich is odd for a Forum.. ).


So I list the DLCs wich DO work (the rest, no matter if for free or to buy: DOES NOT WORK.. you can't even Buy it, you get a blank Website [inside Origin, the PopUp is ment))

So this works (Buttom to Top, German Version, I hope I translate it correctly):

Collector Gear and Sniper Rifle
Sniper Rifle INcisor
Cerberus Network
Kasumi - Stolen Memories
Overlord Pack
Shadow Brocker
Collector Weapon and Armory


The full rest like Genesis and co can not be bought nor installed and THIS is the Issue why we can't Play the game.
I also reinstalled, hell I had to because I replaced my Hard Disk and so I reinstalled everything anyway (yesterday).
So reinstalling this game wont solve it neither does reinstalling Origin.... it is a issue at the Server side. The Content does not get delivered.


So what shall I do now? I am an Computer expert but I doubt you gonna hire me to fix this issue.

Thanks to the guy above me! He Shows exactly the blank Thing you see. But I was able to install SOME DLCs but game wont work because not all (wich where installed and bought once) where installed.

Is nobody else facing those issues except us 2?! I can't belief it... I think most others simply did not reinstall the game recently.

So dear EA-Support: HELP?! ☹️

Weekend is over, can't Play the game since friday (wich I bought and paid for) and nobody knows a solution? That's not realy the game "experience" I wanted.. ;-)

Yesterday, they sent me a message which said i have to call them, i'll call them tomorrow and post the solution (if they have one)

That would be nice.

It would be.. well either expensiv and/or not realy helpfull if I call them from Germany.

Sad to see that EA, a Multi Million Dollar Company, is not capable to react (at least react, nobody called for a quick solution) at the Weekend.... It's just disappointing... with Steam it would not have happened (and ME2 exists there too) that I sit here 3 days without anything.... That's realy not a great customer experience.

if i wouldn't have the "physic" version of the game, i would have bought it on steam too ... I have most of my games there.

And at least, their support doesn't send you back on another website or need to call (so spend more money).

ps : i'm in France, i don't know if the call cost wiil be low or high, but i think it will be lower than calling in germany.

All i have from their message is numbers to France, Belgium, Suiss and Canada. If you want any, just ask but they will be able to reply only from Monday to Friday, 10h to 19h (GTM +1).

Over all I dislike the Kind of Forums used here because it is confusing (lets say I noticed like 3 Forums for ME2...).

There have been two sequels, ME, ME2, ME3, and each of the three games has its own gamer to gamer forum on AHQ.

I had these same issues.

What I did was enter live chat and explain my problem. After that, they added another key to my account which solved the issues I had with downloading DLC.

The play button was still grayed out, however. It seems that the patch Origin downloads after you install the game deletes the MassEffect2Launcher.exe and all related files from the game installation. However, it still looks for that particular file in order to launch the game, as evidenced by the Play button lighting up and immediately working after I replaced it by finding it in the game installation files and putting it back into the folder. It still showed an error about missing files, so I went looking for some more launcher related files and found a folder containing a bunch of image files and an xml file. After replacing this, the game launched without a hitch.

In short: Origin patches the game and deletes the Launcher, then still looks for it in order to start the game.

Fix: EA must either fix their patch so it doesn't delete the Launcher, or point Origin directly to the game executable.

Workaround: Replace the Launcher and related files from the game installation files (Origin settings -> advanced -> browse game install files, get MassEffect2Launcher.exe and the "/data/launcher" folder) OR launch the game executable directly from the game folder.
