Origin refuses to install game from Installation Disc.

Greetings,

Owing to a greet deal of problems that I have had trying to connect to the Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Server, I have reverted from Windows 8 X64 back to Windows 7 x64 after having been informed on multiple occasions that EA does not support a modern Operating System. Allow me to elaborate on my installation saga so far...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....

1. A System format and reinstall. A fresh re-install of Windows 7 with up to date drivers.

2. A fresh install of  the Origin Client is performed.

3.  I proceed to attempt to re install my Mass Effect games from their installation media.

4. The game appears to be transferred from the Discs, origin prompts me to exchange DVD's and ultimately concludes the installation.

5. The Mass Effect icon appears in my start menu. I double click it only to be told that the application has been moved or removed.

6. I then look at Origin which informs me that the game is ready for installation (hadn't I just done this)

7. I click on install and once again the origin client appears to do some work and the Mass Effect icon appears in my Start Menu.

8. I click it and once again Windows informs me that the application has either been moved or removed.

9. I close Origin and start it up again and it informs me that I need to download the game. Didn't I just install it from the Disc?

10. WTF Origin?

Stay tuned for a canned 'We are investigating this issue' response from EA. In the meantime I am forced to use up my download quota, and burning out more writes on my SSD (can I bill that to EA too I wonder).... I will post an update to let you know if Origin is capable of downloading and installing a product that I own. Given that I am doing this due to the fantastic support EA offers for Windows 8 (a modern Operating System) I am rather frustrated with the mess EA has created.

  • Yup, the download install worked, I'm not amused about downloading a product I have installation media for. I'd also like to point out to EA that this is not a solution, mearly a workaround.
