Our single minded mission tracker

So here's a screenshot I made today. This is when I first arrive on Voeld in this playthrough. I have 5 missions active. It tells me that upon approaching the planet.

Of course, when I get down to the planet the mission tracker, can only track one mission at a time. So a few question to you guys:

  1. Does anyone else find this annoying?
  2. How many missions would you like to be tracked simultaneously?
  3. What changes in the UI do you propose to make it manageable?

First it was annoying but then i realized if multiple quests would be tracked you would have multiple locations marked so eventually you'd have to press the map to find out where you need to go. Imagine it having marked the "Counting Bodies" on Kadara, then "Hitting rocks for science" and maybe "Family secrets" you'd end up with 9-10 locations and thats just a mess. If each mission would have different markers thats a different case however.

I think having 3 quests marked would be good , wouldnt ruin your hud and it could be implemented in a form of patch or dlc easily.

Now i have a quest in the Nexus when i need to speak with the director bugged 😬on my screen so now i always have 2 quests marked. Would be nice to see something like that.

first, i think i'd give the map menu a new ui panel, listing available missions, second for missions that have several parts litup at the same time, i'd have one selectable, and the selected icon would be surrounded by like a white halo, for you to keep them individually identifiable on the map as well as on the compass. i'd have non-active quest markers shown when they come into a certain range, and i'd add the ability to track up to 5 specific quests, as each quest becomes tracked it with get a distinctive quest maker for all related markers for said quest, to make it easier to tell which marker is for what quest, i'm thinking making the markers numbers, 1-5 for the quest tracker slots.

Well, I thought about that as well and my solution would indeed be to allow up to 3 quests to be tracked but that each quest being tracked has a different colour. Right now it's this sort of orangy colour, so quest two could be blue and three could be green for example. Also more than 3 would be a bit much indeed is it could get too chaotic.

Also the compass thingy on top of the HUD could use some tweaking. When an objective has multiple locations (quite typical actually) it is not immediately apparent on the compass which one is the closest without opening and looking at the actual map.

hitting the q key during play shows the markers on your screen, and their distance is listed too. kind of annoying to have to press it every few seconds, but it's there.

There's that, true. But I'd prefer it be obvious just by looking at the compass (make the closest icon bigger or something).

Its not always true...the closest isnt always the easiest to get to. See Kadara...200m? oh im just gonna climb over this hill. -> you are leaving the mission area. NOPE

For me, personally, it can get confusing having more than one marker in play.  I'm not sure how the game determines which clear white hexagons show at any given time, but once, while I was in the Kett base, I had some from pretty gar out showing and it was confusing me.

So, while I don't need more than one mission showing at a time, I'd be okay with them giving people the option to be able to highlight more missions at a time.  If they could work it into the game, that would be even better.  Make it like an upgrade for SAM.

Another possibility could be to keep it to where you can only mark one mission at a time, but perhaps when you are close to another mission marker the outline will change from white to green or red or something else noticeable.

It is, just somebody mentioned earlier that they could be marked according to their proximity which could be misleading on maps like Kadara. There you have odd borders but if you move 50m away you can cross without any issue. I think Eos has a few areas like that too but cant remember but for sure not as much as Kadara that makes you travel much more to reach your destination.

Oh...and Havarl...i remember i was so desperate to scan some ore which was on the other side of the wall but i couldnt get there even if it was showing 30-40m away. It was somewhere near the river.

    I felt like this...

So i think the quest markers are fine as they are😃 but the option of tracking multiple ones would be nice with different color/markers so you could identify them without checking the map making the overall gameplay a bit more dynamic.
