PC: Outrageously slow on startup

The problem happens in Mass Effect 2 as well, though no other games on my computer (I've got many. Dishonored, Civ 4 and 5, Batman AC, swtor, Smite, Bioshock, WoW, and many others.)

When I go into Mass Effect 3, the startup animation with the EA logo goes fine, just as it's supposed to. But the minute it goes into the main screen, the one where it says "Press any key", it drops to maybe 1 frame per 3 seconds. The music plays fine without any lag, but when I press a key, the sound it makes when the camera fades upward lags along with the FPS. When it gets into the menu, it still takes just as long to load. The "communicating" circle appears on the top left screen and the "Checking for DLC" message is up in the center. The framerate is the same and after 10 or so minutes, the message is still up there and I can't do anything. I can't go into the in-game menu and I can't start a new game so at this point, I'm not sure what I should do.

Specs:

Windows Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor

Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 650

Total RAM: 4.0 GB

Thank you for the help.

    Hi twilightprince,

I strongly believe that what you are experiencing is a loss Connection to the EA Servers. Even without the actual message of "Your connection to the Mass Effect 3 Servers has been lost......"  what you are describing sounds like that is what is happening. There are some articles which may offer some insight as to what is going on and how to resolve it.

    They are :

If none of these articles give you a solution, then go to help.ea.com and choose Contact US

    Good luck to you.

  • If you disconnect from the internet, the startup process should be faster. If your DLC has already been authenticated at least once, it doesn't have to authenticate anymore, so that process is skipped. For some reason, the game always attempts authentication when you're connected to the internet, even if you did it before, and that takes a lot of time.

Hey, thank you for the help. I'll try DCing the internet. There is no DLC installed but I'll try it.

In the meantime, I'd like to point out that the exact same issue is  happening with Mass Effect 2, which is not used through Origin. So it has to be something else. Mass Effect 1 works fine which would lead me to believe it's the PhysX driver messing up but all of my other games that use it work. So I'm not really sure what's up. It's just these two games.

    Sorry for the double post.

I tried disconnecting the internet and going in but the issue is still present in it's entirety. It's still incredibly slow and still stays on the "Checking for Downloadable Content" screen. Same for Mass Effect 2
