[PC]Bug: Looping forest dream sequence and disappearing Normandy elevator in LE3

Hi,

I have encountered what is so far game-breaking problem in Mass Effect 3 Legendary edition (Steam purchase).

After the first meeting with the Council (after the Earth and Mars missions), one goes back to the Normandy, has the forest dream sequence, and wakes up in the captain's cabin in the Normandy. The problem was always triggered when I tried to take the elevator the the CIC on the second level.

At first what happened is that something would trigger the dream sequence and one would find oneself again waking up in the captain's cabin with Liara.  If one tried going to the second floor again, the dream would trigger and again one would wake up, groundhog day like, in the captain's cabin.

I then tried, after the dream sequence and its horrible slow running, going to other levels of the Normandy, and there were no problems. Until, that is, after going to crew quarters level and having Shadow Broker conversation with Liara, I found out the entire elevator had disappeared, as can be seen below.

My version of the game had been modded when I first ran into the problem, but I then ran a clean uninstall-reinstall, and I still encounter the problem with vanilla.  Verifying integrity of game cache didn't seem to do anything either. Could there be something in the saved game that triggers this bug?

Very grateful for any help, up to an including how to restart in such a way I won't encounter this problem.  I have no problem creating a new Shep and starting from scratch in 3, but I don't want to slog through Earth and Mars again just to get blocked by this problem.

Thanks again.

  • Hi,

I'm afraid it did not.  However, all it seemed to do was to trigger the Steam "verify integrity of cache" utility. My copy of ME LE  *is* a Steam purchase, so perhaps there's not much the Origin console is able to repair?

I'm essentially resigned to the fact that that particular save is hopelessly compromised, but, I would still like to know how something like this (persistent graphical glitches and a endless gameplay loop) could persist across several clean installs and repairs, if for nothing else to make sure the next playthrough I try doesn't run into this.

Thank you very much for replying (and apologies for my own delay in trying the solution--work during the week).

I am not sure that this is a problem with the save game, the only way to make sure is to use a other, much earlier save game or start from scratch.

This could be a hardware problem as well.

  • I encountered the same issue (minus the disappearing elevator). It was seemingly resolved after I ran a fix through origin (don't know if that's possible in steam), and made sure my mods were up to date (had to update the extended galaxy and audeamus' happy ending ones) and then the meeting with specialist Traynor occurred immediately after speaking with Liara, following the dream.

Don't know what helped, but my game is now no longer stuck, so I'm happy.
