Priority: Geth Dreadnought will not start

I have no idea what to do or where to start. This is my first time playing Mass Effect 3 and I don't want it to end already.
I am currently playing a modded version of ME3 LE on Steam (through Origin), though hopefully this isn't the issue--my installed mod list is available upon request.

My problem is this: I cannot start Priority: Geth Dreadnought. I can select my crew, I can select and mod my weapons, and I can allocate my skill points. But the moment I confirm my final choices, the game displays the Normandy loading screen and then it cuts to black. No cutscene, no sound, nothing. Absolutely nothing.

AND YET. When I go back to the auto save for the supposed mission, it will load. It will load Shepard into a floating, astral void with a single armor bench in front of him. I'm guessing this is a proxy zone for choosing your weapons before loading the actual mission, which I can do. I can interact with the armor bench and make selections and once I confirm, black screen yet again.

Please, please, please help me figure this out.

Thank you for whatever solutions you can help me try.

    What Mods do you use?

Realistically, this is most probably a problem with a Mod or the game files being corrupted.

Both can only be repaired if you vanilla the game by repairing it or by uninstalling/disabling them with "ME3Tweaks Mod Manager".
Repairing is still the saver option though.
    Repair:

(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)

(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

You can reinstall the Mods once you are in the mission to see if the game still works, if not, one of your Mods is the culprit.

  • I did try repairing! Repaired through Origin which then validated Steam files. It said 41(?) files needed to be re-downloaded, so I did that.

I guess for now I can restore my game to vanilla and hope that:
    1) it doesn't mess anything up game-play wise
    2) it will allow me to just start the mission

My current mod list is as follows:

    • Anderson's Final Conversation
    • Ashley Consistency Project
    • LE3 Better Camera
    • Cerberus REtrofits
    • Choose your Outfit
    • Classic Heatsinks
    • Community Framework (LE3 Patch)
    • Conrad No Apology
    • Diana Allers Overhaul
    • EDI in Uniform
    • EGM Armors for LE3
    • EGM MIranda
    • Expanded Galaxy Mod (base, extras pack, squadmates)
    • FISH (plus Kelly)
    • Feet Admiral Steven Hackett Restored
    • Geth Retrofits (wonder if this one might be the culprit since the issue is the first Geth mission....)
    • Harbinger Overhaul
    • Kirrahe Makes Good
    • LE3 Diversification Project
    • Miranda Mod LE3
    • No Reapers and Max Scan Range
    • Omega Interrupt for All Classes
    • Optional Flirting Mod
    • Oriana looks like Miranda's twin
    • Pinnacle Station Apartment
    • Reaper Retrofits
    • Remove Storm Screen Shake
    • Remove Shared Cooldowns
    • Safely skip the conversation for LE3
    • Security Scan Skip
    • Take Earth Back
    • Tali Remastered LE3
    • Unique Kahlee Sanders

If I am able to load the game but the same issue or a new one arises, is there a simpler way to find out which mod is giving the trouble?

    @Sonicplayer268

You can look in the "Posts" section of the Mod on the Nexus, if there is a problem like yours mentioned.

Other than that, unfortunately just trial and error.

  • @holger1405

I was able to solve the issue!
My solution was to restore the game to vanilla, and enter the mission. Once in, I made an immediate save and quit.
I then reinstalled my mods and was able to continue forward.

Interestingly, I went back and tried one more time with only SOME mods installed. It gave me the same issue! So it seems that it definitely was one of the mods listed. Unfortunately, I don't know which one. Maybe when I have more time I can do some trial and error and report it to the correct mod author.

    Thanks for all your help!

I figured out which mod it was. Disabling "EDI in Uniform fixed it."

    Bug report on the mod

This fixed the black screen on the Geth Dreadnought / crash after the loading screen for me.

I just disabled the mod via me3tweaks then re-enabled it after the mission.

My suspicion is that the game is trying to load her alternate appearance, and the mod outfit at the same time, because she doesn't cause crashes anywhere else.
