progress blocking bug on normandy, black screen galaxy map and falling

experiencing a bug when I return to the normandy after talking to the girl who was related to my sheps backstory and talking her down, anyway i'm roughly 15 hours into the game,

and when I try to use the galaxy map, the screen goes blank, then it shows my shep standing at the rail and moving around (not frozen) but no key presses do anything. I'm stuck.

I have to alt f4 to get out. Also, I discovered on top of this, If i try to go to the com room, the graphics go nuts and i fall through the floor.

I've used the normandy many times before this without issue, i've reinstalled graphics drivers, used steam verify integrity of files, tried an older save, doesn't seem to matter.

is my game just broken?
