Re: Mass Effect 2 - Shadow Broker DLC Crash

Thanks for your time, but your solution did not work for me. Neither did any other proposed solutions for that matter.

- made a shortcut of the original MassEffect2.exe from Binaries to the Desktop and added -nomoviestartup to the end of it's 'target' field, with the space and without any quotes.

- changed the program to run compatibility settings to Windows 7

- Disabled all Graphics Options, selected 800 x 600 and changed it to "window"

- Chose Tali and Jack as crew mates

- Set all "vsync" options in that configuration file you mentioned to "vsync=False" and saved the file

- run the shortcut as administrator

I did all of these, and yet none worked. Still the cut scene at the car chase, goes black and there's only audio, nothing works.

:-(

:-(

What should I do?

    Hi,

I just managed to fix it. When it worked, i had done this:

    - set all my graphics to minimum

    - made sure my system was using my dedicated graphics card for the game

    - updated all possible drivers

    - patched the game to 1.02

    - removed the command argument -nomoviestartup from the shortcut. I figured, what the hell, sounds like it could be messing something up as well, let's switch to default.

And it finally did it. I'm not quite sure which of these did it (for all i know, just by having removed the -nomoviestartup thing i made it work. I tried playing straight after patching but still no good.)

...You know, it's been such a long time since I played the game now, I'm not even sure what i was supposed to do. I'll have to do a quick read up, i guess haha.

    Good luck!

removing the -nomoviestartup fixed the black screen freeze during the car chase for me. Its funny because i had to turn it on to even make it that point and then it turned out to be the cause of for this particular issue.

i hate everything to do with illium right now. its a constant battle of trying different configurations just to get past one bug only to run face first into another.

Thanks to everyone who has posted there solutions thus far.

  • OH. MY. GOD. THANK YOU!! I have been banging my head on a freaking ROCK for the last few hours on this!

    ----------------SPOILER ALERT BELOW---------------

    So, a couple of points:

    1) If you DO NOT see the bomb explosion in the beginning of the Shadow Broker DLC after going with Vasir to the hotel, RESTART your mission. I don't know if picking different squad members helped or not, but if you do not see that explosion, you'll get to the Liara/Vasir shootout and Liara will just be standing there with her pistol drawn and you can't interact with her or anything else. This is where I restarted and realised I didn't see the hotel explosion in the beginning.

    2) The "screen going black" car chase - I removed the "-nomoviestartup" option and that fixed it! I did notice that the cutscene seemed to be a different resolution than the one that I was playing at, so maybe a factor?

TODO: Curious if the outfits the team members wear matters; I outfitted them all with the DLC custom packs. If I could do it all over (Which I distinctly DO NOT want to do, maybe I'd try with their default skins.

    THANK YOU again for this!

@Pouya_Blue_Flame I re-installed on a regular hdd (was on a fast SSD), ran win 7 as admin, windowed, -nomoviestartup, and got by it
  • Hello, I went thru all manuals, have tried everything, but I do not have ME2game.exe file in Binaries so impossible to solve it via mentioned manuals.

May I ask you to pass car race please for me, save game and send me the save back?

    I am desperate :-(

I was crashing near the end of the car chase using all suggestions here with -nomoviestartup, shortcuts, etc.

I went back and launched from the Origin app, and it worked.

  • go in this directory:

    Mass Effect 2 \ BioGame \ DLC \ DLC_EXP_Part01 \ Movies

and move the file named "EXP_Part01_CarCrashBink.bik" into the movie folder of the game right here:

    Mass Effect 2 \ BioGame \ Movies

@AetherArchon Thank you so much, i spent all day trying to figure out with the other solution but only this worked for me
  • The crash only happens if you watched Shadow Broker video recording in the room with Feron.
So i fixed this issie by doing this
1)Do everything possible in Shadow Broker room, walk towards the exit, make a quick and separate save files

2)Turn video setting to full screen.

    3)Restart the game
4)Load quick save - you should be standing in front of the exit door still
5)Change video setting to Windowed (borderless window doesnt work)
    6)Try exiting to the Normandy.

If doesnt help - try again. It works for me 3 times out of 5.

  • I don't remember any problems when I played this the first time round, however, what a nightmare this time!

MY FIX was based on all of the data presented from all of these entries - thanks everyone! :-)

    My System

    • I7-10700k
    • 32GB
    • Sabrent M2 PCIe 2TB SSD
    • Nvidia RTX2070
    • 2 x Samsung 4K UHD screens running 3840 x 2160
    • Origin
    • W10

My Fixes for Shadow Broker DLC.

    • Door under Liara's office
      • Open the masseffect config.exe file & set the graphics to:
        • borderless window
        • 1920 x 1080 resolution
        • I left everything else on full
        • Save the settings
      • Create the desktop shortcut using the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2\Binaries\ME2Game.exe" & use the -nomoviestartup option
      • Load the game
      • Goto the door
      • WALK through the door & STOP when the advert is triggered
      • Once the advert has finished continue to WALK down the corridor slowly
      • Save immediately that the next door opens
      • Re-set your graphics to their normal values (which for me is 3840 x 2160) & continue play

This worked for me although I had also disabled 'Autosave' from a previous attempt & had not re-enabled it.

    • Hover Car Chase
      • Open the masseffect config.exe file & set the graphics to:
        • borderless window
        • 1920 x 1080 resolution
        • I left everything else on full
        • Save the settings
      • Start the game using the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect 2\Binaries\MassEffect2.exe" DO NOT USE the -nomoviestartup option
      • Play the chase through to the end
      • Save the game once you have landed on the balcony
      • Re-set your graphics to their normal values

At this point the game played right through to the shadow Broker's Lair for me & I was able to return to the Normandy properly.

I hope this helps.  Good Luck!
