@EA_Illium I was te one who suggested that, so yes it helped me... I can confirm that I can play for as long as I wish with EA App on- and offline. Do not have solution for the ocasional not starting game (when it is present in Task Manager, but not even using CPU) - just force quit and try again.

@Resztaczasu Apologies I tagged the wrong people in the thread. Thanks for confirming none the less!
Launch issues may be more connected with the EA App based on similar reports from other players are team is aware of. - NoctemRose3 years agoSeasoned Novice
I can also confirm that this helped my game last longer than 5 minutes w/o crashing!
Just tried it lmfao. So I'm having this issue too, except turning on the overlay makes the game lock up right after the splash screen. If I turn the overlay off the game runs fine for a couple of minutes then locks up. Either way I can't play the game, even tried a fresh install which didn't help
Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.
Here is my DXdiag, thanks!
There is no ME crash registered inside DxDiag.
Does the game always hangs at the same location?
Do you use Mods?
Try to repair the game.
(Origin: Game Library > Right-click the game cover > Repair)
(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)If that don't helps, please preform a clean boot and test the Game in clean boot mode.
(Make sure the "EABackgroundService" remains enabled under point 3 in the guide.)Make sure your virus scanner and other security software and also Afterburner and similar software is disabled.
Make also sure that your GPU & CPU are not overclocked.
(cm edit - updated title)
Yes if I have the overlay on it always hangs immediately after the splash screen. I do use mods, but I tried a fresh in stall without mods and it does the same thing. If I turn the EA App overlay off the game always freezes after about 2 minutes. Either way I have to kill it with the task manager. Even with the fresh install I tried a repair as you suggested and it still hangs at the exact same spot. I have tried a clean boot in between the past couple of attempts to launch.
Edit: I timed the freeze with the overlay off, it's exactly 2 minutes 30 seconds just like the OP.

You should try to launch the game inside the clean boot. (Make sure all additional things have been applied as well.)
That''s what I did, tried again today just to make sure. It's still the same, with the overlay turned off in the EA App the game runs for 2 minutes 30 seconds then freezes, overlay turned on it freezes right after the splash screen.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- In the new Window, type or copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) > Press ENTER
- Look if there are any "MassEffect.exe.Xxxx.dmp" files in the "..Local\CrashDumps" folder.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at a free file hosting service like Dropbox or Onedrive.
- Post the link here.
If there aren't any dump files of ME:
- Press the Windows key > Write: Command Prompt > Right click on "Command Prompt" in the search results > Run as administrator.
- Copy and paste reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD into the prompt Window > Press ENTER.
- Play the game until it crashes.
- After the game crashes, let all Windows crash dialogues finish.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. > Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) into the new window > Press ENTER.
- Zip 2 - 3 "MassEffect.exe.Xxxx.dmp" or "MassEffectLauncher.exeXxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at file hosting service like Dropbox or you can use the Onedrive "public" folder.
- Post the link here.
If you want to undo the automatic dump creation, use the command below in a elevated command prompt (As in point 1) reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f
Even after turning on the automatic dump creation there are no .dmp files for Mass Effect after it locks up. However, just as a diagnosing too,l I found a workaround to run Origin again instead of the EA App and Mass Effect runs perfectly through Origin. I played for a couple of hours with no crashes. Tried it through the EA App again the get the same lockups in the same spots.
Then I hope your Origin workaround will keep functioning.
Have fun gaming!@holger1405Thanks! I know it's likely not a permanent fix, but at least I can play the game until the EA App hopefully gets a fix for this.
