Re: Mass Effect 3 DLC EA Play

I don't think you understand whats going on here. So let me explain.

1. EA have a digital store on PC called EA Origin.
2. That store is primarily accessed on PC via the Origin Store application/client.
3. On PC a player can make their purchases/acquire EA games and DLC via the Origin Store application.
4. EA have now launched a replacement application for the EA Origin Store. This new application is called EA Desktop it is in Beta. This is what the user is referring to.
5. EA Desktop is not fully functional and it lacks much of the basic functionality of the EA Origin Store application, but Game Pass is ONLY linked to EA Desktop.
6. The user in question is trying to point out this functionality difference and they need a workaround presently they cannot purchase/acquire ME3 via the Origin Store, only through EA Desktop.
7. But if they purchase/acquire ME3 via EA Desktop they can not get it with any of the DLC.

For me, the issue is a little different. I already own ME3 and all of its DLC. However if I attempt to download ME3 via EA Desktop, it will successfully download and install the base game only without any of the DLC that I own. I can however download all the DLC I own via the EA Origin Store.

As a workaround for the person I'd suggest that they consider purchasing the game via Steam instead. I'm unaware of any content distribution problems via Steam when it comes to EA DLC at present but strongly advise the person to research this before making a decision. Alternatively he could attempt to purchase the game via EA Desktop, and then purchase the DLC via EA Origin. Alternatively they may be able to bypass this altogether by purchasing the products directly via EA's web store which still seems to be available via https://www.origin.com. Remember that no matter how the game is purchased he will not be able to download/acquire it's DLC via the EA Desktop Application at the time of writing. This is not the only EA game affected in this way when it comes to the EA Desktop application.

Interestingly DLC for games built on the Frostbite Engine seem to include their DLC, ME3 was built on Unreal. It looks like this client hooks more deeply into Frostbite based products that we purchase from EA and those hooks do not exist in Unreal Engine titles.

The issue is more complicated than that actually, as they aren't buying the game on PC, they are getting access through I think Xbox EA game pass which unlocks the game on PC if you have the service.....but that service only uses the new beta EA Desktop.  So they are paying a subscription on their console with a benefit to allow them to play on PC as well, but right now there are issues with DLC using this new system.

Contacting the help desk is the proper action as that can help get the reports to the proper locations to maybe get this snafu fixed.

Hopefully support can get this fixed. I actually purchased ME3 and all of its DLC a few years ago. And if I use EA Desktop to try to download the game, none of the DLC is present. However, I can download it all via EA Origin and also via Steam since I have a copy of it purchased on Steam on a different computer.

I had corrected my earlier diatribe a little to make it more representative of the problem reported, but as you said it is more complicated than that, since it's affecting people who bought the game and its content outright too, who may experience issues with DLC acquisition if they use EA Desktop. So I'll leave my slightly edited message as it is now, it may be useful to someone else in different circumstances experiencing a variant of the problem.

Thanks, but I understand the problem.

I don't think that someone that can access the game throughout a existing charged subscription (Xbox game pass) want to buy the game on a different platform. 😉

There are also some workarounds for the Game pass issue that seem to work,  as setting the Windows UAC to max for example.

Four your problem the only solution will be the full implementation of  ME3 into EA Desktop. That probably will take some time, I doubt that games as old as ME have priority.
