Re: Unable to launch Mass Effect 2

@holger1405 So I've been struggling with this issue for a few days. I've been over all of the forum posts that exist and tried everything. I installed several other games on origin to make sure and none of them launched. Speaking to the EA reps was pointless, they just gave me a list of troubleshooting advice, told me they don't support ME or ME2 any more and closed the chat.

I have managed to get ME2 playable though, although it was accidental. I tried doing a clean reboot but my PC had trouble with closing the programs so I had to restart a few times. At some point in the process Origin claims I had launched it in a compatability mode. I checked, and I hadn't set origin to run in compatability mode, but everything works perfectly now. Only problem is, I'm trying to install ME3 and it downloads but does not install. I'm attempting another reboot to see if I can go back to a non compatability mode, install the stuff and see what happens.

Long story short, try running Origin in a compatability mode, I don't know for which OS, try several.

  • Okay, it's not that. I just rebooted and tried it all again and now it's back to not working. I think what this must mean is that there's a program blocking origin games from opening that temporarily was shut down when I attempted a clean reboot. I just have no idea what it might be.

    @Fladoodle1

    I moved your posts to a separate thread.

    Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply.

    Go also to your Reliability monitor > Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time and copy and paste or type "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes) in the new Window > hit “ENTER” and look if it has entries for the game you have trouble with.

    If yes double click at the last entry for the game executable, copy the info to the clipboard, and save it to a text file.

    You can attach the DxDiag text file you created (and the “Reliability monitor” text file as well) to your post in the “Reply” window with the “Choose File” button.
