- Seconding that reply: all the cutscenes with your character are rendered ad hoc, not pre-rendered. Otherwise how would it get the face right? And, more topically, how would it get the weapon right sometimes but not always? I guarantee you no one pre-programmed the Revenant as a cutscene weapon, but my Ryder uses one in combat and (sometimes, when the game gets it right) in cutscenes.
What confuses me is how it's sometimes right but mostly not. If it's going to be wrong, shouldn't it be wrong all the time? - Anonymous9 years ago
Exactly. That's the question. If sometimes it does it right it means it's probably supposed to and there's only two explanations why it doesn't: all cut scenes have an individual hand-made pre-program that sometimes includes giving you the right weapon and sometimes not; cut scenes are pre-programmed to give you the right weapon but sometimes it doesn't work. I'm inclined towards the latter cause the first hypotesys seems crazy to me. And if I'm right they can fix it.
I agree that the devs are unlikely to have intentionally pre-programmed the wrong weapon for both Ryder and squadmates, especially when they made such a big deal about squadmates having their own personal, iconic weapons.
My ignorance about programming means that I don't know the first thing about why a pre-programmed instruction to show the correct equipped weapon would fail to work. I suppose that's why it's a bug, and we might never know the answer, but that doesn't make me any less curious.

i could be wrong, if i remember right mass effect 1 always seemed to show the weapon you had equiped. i belive mass effect 2 did this well to as i remember moments in scenes i was holding shooting the revenant and even sounded like the revenant. it wasnt untill mass effect 3 where it realy started to default back to weapons in cutscense literaly ever scene. and yes this one seems to read custom face in scenes , armour choices, both parts and colour. and half the time it seems to read the correct weapon. its moments when it shows a 5 second moment where ur crouched and randomly shows a weapon u dont have equiped then long conversation/shooting moments where wrong weapons appear. even near the start when liam is holding the white riffle and moments where as people have said the likes of jall etc are holding m8 one moment then there standard guns the next. seems to chop and change and is verry inconsistant. i know its not a major issue just spoils the experience somewhat.

Well, it does feel strange trying to find the problem. You character also have the armor you picked and, if you chooses to, the helmet on.

In the previous mass effect games cut scenes you were often defaulted to a pistol.
SWTOR also has this issue. Your char pulls out a pistol in cut scenes if they use one or not. A single bladed lightsaber only regardless if they have two sabers or a double bladed saber.
It is immersion breaking and been an issue with all their games.
