Shady sales technique

Don't you think you should make the game playable with no internet???
1) it's a solo title, not an MMO.
2) Nowhere did it say it requires the internet to play (Only having the option to play it thru your launcher can be considered false advertising, Nowhere in the system requirements does it say an internet connection is a must to play).

Your own system requirements
MASS EFFECT™ LEGENDARY EDITION PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS.
OS: 64-bit Windows 10.
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570 or AMD FX-8350.
RAM: 8 GB System Memory.
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 760, AMD Radeon 7970 / R9280X.
GPU RAM: 2 GB Video Memory.
HARD DRIVE: At least 120 GB of free space.
DIRECTX: DirectX 11 Mass Effect™ Legendary Edition Recommended PC Requirements.

Sorry to be a bit harsh but you sold this title to me under false information, it might not seem like a big deal but I really hate all these Corporate launcher's, if I knew I had to play it thru one I would have never bought the title again (I got all the originals I would have stuck to them).

I am not asking for a refund, I want you to give me what I paid for, the ability to play the game without having to launch it thru your so-called "Launcher". Why should I have to pay a retail store's prices just to have to launch it with a launcher that feeds information back to a greedy company?

  • On GOG you can get offline/standalone installers for all the games in their shop, and you won't need Galaxy (their launcher). A small number of multiplayer-based games require Galaxy.

Pretty much all other storefronts will have you run their games through a launcher. EA is no different there from Steam, Epic, Blizzard, etc.

Dragon Age Origins came out in 2009, and Origin launched in 2011, so that's why you might remember playing without it. Though I don't know if it would still let you play directly from the old DAO launcher - I have a physical copy, but my current PC has no optical drive, so I cannot test it, lol.

The in-game EA login served as a gateway to the now decommissioned BW Social site, where the game would upload and sync your achievements, characters, screenshots, adventures and such. (I'd assume that's where your avatar might be from? 🙂 )

Since then, I've registered all my older EA games to Origin when it allowed me to do so. I'm one of the few people who actually likes it - at this age, network speed beats installing from disks.

It was definitely the Origin download. I do have a physical copy and played it with the disc before, but I also remember playing the Origin download without the launcher. I don't know if that still works, though. I'd give it a try, but it's not installed at the moment.

Edit: I just installed it. The game launches straight from the executable and doesn't require Origin.

Yep, that's my mage, Gargamel Amell. Gotta pay tribute to my Belgian heritage by referencing our most influential comic book. 🙂

The login I referred to was a popup before the game launched. It was required to run the game without the Origin client. It wasn't every time, though.

  • @Fred_vdp There's a good chance the game was never modified with the Origin framework and copy protection requirements, which is why it is able to run without it. I just tested my Origin copy of SimCity 4, and it behaves the same way. Runs fine without Origin loaded.
  • oh well download the client and turn on Offline Mode in the Origin Launcher or dont play the game offline. Is it that hard? I mean the client is a mere 2GB? prolly less than that. If your PC cant handle 1 or 2 clients running in the background maybe you should either upgrade or just go to console gaming

Why not? It's just a folder on my SSD like any other, except that it syncs with a server.

I wouldn't do that for a large game, though. Control was just a hypothetical. I have personally only done that for LucasArts classics I bought from GOG.

@CharmCitysKing Saves the time to install and configure the game in afforementioned cases, and lets it be played on, say, a laptop when your main computer isn't available. Just for an example.
