ssleay.dll file problem

okay where to start...

ive got windows 7 (64 bit) intel core i7-2600 @ 3.4 GHz - 8 GIGS of RAM

AMD Radeon HD 7950 (fully updated)

DirectX 11

so I'm trying to run mass effect one through origin (it was downloaded, so no discs). and it simply does not start.

I go into Program Files(x86) >Origin Games > Mass Effect (folder) and I search for the exe and I find it. I try to run it and i get this error:

"Missing required file "ssleay32.dll""

So I search for this file and voila it is in Mass Effect Binaries folder where it should be. (Still not working)

I've tried re-installing twice (once in safe mode). I have tried running the game AND origin in compatibility mode and that does not work. I cannot access compatibility mode through the game either because either it won't launch or I get the error.

so to sum up my problems:

1. When I run the game through origin it does not start, nothing happens.

2. When I try to run the exe in the Mass Effect folder I get the error message "missing file required ssleay32.dll"

3. When I try to run the update it says Mass Effect is not installed. (It is lol.)

Help plz. Thanks

it will not let me. Everytime I try to run the patch i get this error: Mass Effect not found. Please install game from the original source and try again. (Which I did twice, once in safe mode and once regular)

Also I forgot to mention my windows is 64 bit. (i edited it aswell in the original post.)

is there no one out there that has a solution? ☹️

  • Are both Origin and Mass Effect being run as an administrator?

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\Binaries\MassEffect.exe and made the following change:

    1) Left click the "MassEffect.exe" file to open the drop down menu.
    2) From the menu select "Properties".
    3) From the window that opens select the "Compatibility" Tab.
    4) Click the "Change settings for all users" button.
    5) Check the "Run this program as an administrator" option.
    6) Click "Apply".
    7) Closed both "MassEffect.exe Properties" windows.

Next exit out of Origin if it's open. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\Origin.exe

    1) Left click the "Origin.exe" file to open the drop down menu.
    2) From the menu select "Properties".
    3) From the window that opens select the "Compatibility" Tab.
    4) Click the "Change settings for all users" button.
    5) Check the "Run this program as an administrator" option.
    6) Click "Apply".
    7) Closed both "Origin.exe Properties" windows.

That did not help with any of my problems.

so I have figured out that my game is updated to the newest version 1.02 or whatever.. so why would the update say mass effect isn not installed? :S

  • Age. The patch may be looking for the game in a different file; sometimes they'll only look for a game if it's installed on the "C" drive and/or looking for a "Mass Effect" or "Bioware" folder in the Program File (retail copy) instead of an "Origin Game" or "Steam" folder (digital copy).

Got the same problem here.  So how do we get around it?

Can we transfer to an EA file and try to update?  What would have been the file location if NOT in Origin Games?
