Are both Origin and Mass Effect being run as an administrator?
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\Binaries\MassEffect.exe and made the following change:
1) Left click the "MassEffect.exe" file to open the drop down menu.
2) From the menu select "Properties".
3) From the window that opens select the "Compatibility" Tab.
4) Click the "Change settings for all users" button.
5) Check the "Run this program as an administrator" option.
6) Click "Apply".
7) Closed both "MassEffect.exe Properties" windows.
Next exit out of Origin if it's open. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin\Origin.exe

5) Check the "Run this program as an administrator" option.

That did not help with any of my problems.
so I have figured out that my game is updated to the newest version 1.02 or whatever.. so why would the update say mass effect isn not installed? :S
