Trying to activate Mass Effect on Origin but will not accept Steam CD Key.

I am encountering an issue where Origin will not accept the 'CD Key' for the original Mass Effect which I purchased through Steam. An assistance that can be provided will be very helpful. Thank you.

  • The first Mass Effect is from a time when EA Download Manager (since re-branded as Origin) did not always accept product codes from game copies bought outside of the EA store. That's why the original Mass Effect will not always be accepted by Origin.

You can, however, contact support and they can assign it to your account. Several years ago I did the same thing with my original DVD copy of the game. I went through live chat, they had me make a Pogo account for some reason, but in the end it all worked out.

My copy is on Steam. The CD key works there and is an alphanumeric code 20 digits long. However when trying to register the game to origin (to get access to the Pinnacle Station DLC) using this code is is not accepted..

Thank you for your swift reply.

Yes, that's what I meant. Any Mass Effect product code that wasn't purchased directly from Origin, whether it's a physical or Steam copy, may be rejected by the Origin client. You should contact official support about that.

Though I'm not sure if the Pinnacle Station code will be accepted at all nowadays. The only way to get that now is by getting the Trilogy Edition. It used to be standalone DLC, but it was pulled from the Origin store, presumably because it's terrible. (Edit: Pinnacle Station is now available for free.)
