Hey 🙂 It was PC, I had mods on, repaired the game, removed the mods after and repaired the game again but nothing worked. Later on today I got in touch with EA helpdesk chat and they sent the following instructions:
Please refer these steps and clear origin cache files. Please log out from origin and Delete the following folders: All the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for LocalContent - Found in C:\ProgramData\Origin\LocalContent All files and folders found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Origin All files and folders found in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Origin

3 - Refer this link and reset your internet settings. https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/kb/923737

I did all the steps (googled the internet reset as the link did not work for me) except for the antivirus/firewall part.
I am not sure where the issue was originally but in the end the above steps fixed the problem. When I reloaded the old save game before the gravity well it worked without issue. When I reloaded the save game after the gravity well issue when I was set back to the slums after the eternal fall, the sky was still black and the environment bright, however when I went back to the vault and completed the quest, came out and everything was perfect in the game 🙂

Just picked this game up on sale, same issue. None of the fixes mentioned have worked for me. Good thing I didn't pay full price, but this sucks.
