I have been disappointed by the nexus compared to the citadel in ME3.
The citadel in mass effect 3 was very well designed in my opinion for the following reasons :
-It allow the player to "feel" the progress of the war with the reaper in zones like refugee docks or Huerta Mem Hospital
-It evolved though out the game, fist it felt like a preserved sanctuary then a war zone after the coup.
-It contained lot of side quests that unlocked depending of the main quest progression
-The NPC dialogue you could heard just by walking around the station were very immersives
Now fortunately some elements made it to andromeda like your squad mate in short leave and some interesting sides quests or cutscenes, the angaran in the cultural center or Tann welcoming the Leusinia refugees... those little immersive details that contribute a dynamic environment. However some other details are missing.
- The nexus in the prologue :
- In the prologue the nexus feel more unfinished ( dark room with lot of crates) than damaged by the dark energy cloud as it was described in the book.
- There is no trace of visible damage and no area where you can see the horrible conditions they had to live with before the player arrive.
Even if the different NPC explain to you how it was and what happened it does not impact the player emotionally.
- The nexus evolution in the game :
The nexus evolution is limited, after you come back from the first time a new area is accessible and every things are running well.
- No new areas opened with the nexus level progression
- The improvements are so quick that you get the feeling that every thing is back in order even if the NPC tell you otherwise.
- Most sides quests in the station can be done after you have established your first colony with the exception of squad mate quests and the angara in the cultural center (which I really appreciated) who come later
- No side quests in response to the other arks arrival
- No side quests with the other pathfinders ( it feel like the player is the only pathfinder working)
- No visible consequence of the Kett attack except for the removal of the Hyperion
- Everything ( shops, laboratory, bar, hydroponic lab ) is conveniently at the same area in this incredibly huge station ( make sense only at the beginning with the limited resources )
Questions :
What do you think about the nexus ?
Am I unfair to overlook these details ?
Do you have ideas of side quests or content that could improve immersion on the nexus ?
