This point is completely irrelevant. Whether it's a matter of presumed dead or really dead and being ressurrected, the gimmick is the same: you thought someone was dead and presto, here they are again.
With Ellen I didn't mind so much because it was well done, but they should've left it at that. Having your Ryder die and be brought back was just unnecessary. And if Alec also comes back from the dead (because let's be honest, we don't reallly know if he died all the way or not), then it's just pure, lazy writing. It gets cheapened with each instance especially if it's within the same game.

I spent most of my time in gw2 doing dungeon runs and that battlefield mode, though I did run through the story too.
As for ME, bioware, and EA... At this point I'd be more surprised if they stopped killing off & resurrecting their protagonists.
