What's your favorite sniper rifle?

I'm a sucker for a good sniper rifle, they were always my preferred weapon in the original trilogy, along with having a backup assault rifle for medium range, and a shotgun for close range (always favored the soldier/tech approach).

I'm early in the game, 94 hrs/level 16, so my weapon level is only at the 3rd tier.  Right now I'm loving a crafted Insisor Sniper Rifle with that 3 shot burst with mods for damage and accuracy, and augmented in creation with disruptor ammo effect.  Great against remnants.  Damage is lower, but fire rate is crazy high.

In ME2-ME3, the Widowmaker  was my go to sniper rifle, with a headshot I could one shot kill anything but a boss enemy, but haven't crafted it's equivalent in MEA.  Actually, in MEA I believe it's just called the Widow (correct me if I'm wrong here), and in it's description it  states something to the effect that it isn't as strong as the original Widowmaker.

So all you snipers, what is your favorite sniper rifle?  There are so many to create I don't want to waste the resources on something that is not as effective.

The only single-shot sniper rifles in the game are the Widow and the Isharay, afaik, and the Isharay you can actually build early on due to how easy it is to get Heleus research points.

I carry two. A crafted Isharay with unlimited ammo and extra slots. One shot at a time, but what a shot. I also carry a regular Black Widow for when I need to shoot faster. There is a reason you can't add augmentations to a Black Widow. It would be overpowered, so no reaon to craft one. I have 5 weapon slots that make this feasible. My Isharay is my main weapon, even for close quarters battles. Few Kett, or anyone else, can survive a single headshot from this. Beats spraying with pistols and assault rifles all day. Why shoot an enemy 20 times when you can shoot them once? At level 35 my Isharay is putting out 1115 damage. by the time you get to level 80, I think it's over 1600.

For me the sniper rifles don't have the range to be all that useful. It's really just pathetic. So I usually just go with an assault rifle with a scope. Though, sometimes i do pack a shadow sniper rifle.

I've gotten headshots at nearly 200 meters(according to scope), just have to use the reticle to allow for bullet drop. That's far enough away the enemies don't detect you. In fact, I have killed beasts that were far enough away to immediately respawn on the same spot. Good for target practice.

The maximum range I can get with any sniper rifle is about 100m, that's just nonsense. Or, imho I guess.

An assault rifle hits that distance, so that's what I go with.

i've tried adjusting for arc, no matter how high i adjust for slope i get nothing. 85m just fine, 94m still bullseye, 101m nothing. except on the krogan colony world (can't remember how that's spelled), there i can get a hit at up to 110m or so, but everywhere else maximum range for me seems to be 100m or less.

    ---edit

i'm on elaaden (i had to write the name down lol) and i decided to tryout a widow (i actually don't like it all that much), using a widow i have a maximum effective range (maximum effective range meaning, maximum range a weapon can operate in without a noticeable degradation in performance) seems to be about 110m, though i can reliably strike targets at 170m, but only with a widow, i'd try a blackwidow though i don't have the research points for it atm. it's a shame i still don't like that particular weapon, nor do i think the maximum range is still sufficient for a sniper rifle. but this is noticeably better.

  • I go with the Isharay for long distance shots and bosses.

I switch to the Raptor for the super fast auto hybrid SR/AR firepower.

    Asari sword for close-in melee.
