Why can't I access my DLC's?

I just bought the Mass Effect Trilogy pack.  My old versions of the games still work fine, but when I put in ME2 it tells me it can't load my save file because the DLC's are missing or corrupted.

Why is this happening and how do I correct it?

  • You're going to need to re-download your DLC.  I had the same issue.  My copies of ME1 and ME2 predated the shift to Origin.  Go to your account page at social.bioware.com and log in; on the navigation panel to the left, mouse over Profile, and choose "Your Registered Game Content".  All the DLC entitlements you've got should be there; download each and run the .exe to install them (make sure you've got your game installed, of course).

I also read someone else having this issue, and the recommendation from the EA rep who posted in their thread was to run the installer from the directory where your game is located.  Your browser probably puts downloaded files elsewhere by default (I use Chrome, and it defaults to the "Downloads" folder I have).  Move the .exe for your DLC into the appropriate game directory before running it, so it doesn't have to look far for the files it wants to work with.

I'm on an xbox actually.  I kind of figured I would need to redownload my stuff.  Unfortunately internet is difficult for me to get sometimes as my job keeps me moving around and hotel internets suck.  What I really wanted to know is why this happens.  I hate the shift going on with videogames.  I had to stop playing mass effect on my computer because Origin was so much of a problem, and I could hardly ever play my campaign just because I wasn't connected to the internet.  It's not just xbox or computer games either.  I have game apps on my phone that won't let me play them anymore unless my phone is connected to the internet.  I think this crap is ridiculous.  I understand that game companies have to take steps to ensure their content isn't being stolen or replicated, but it shouldn't be at the expense of loyal, paying customers.  Also, it doens't do much to deter game theft and copying anyway, as people are still doing it even with these safeguards in place.  I really think that gamers need to start a movement to take back their games.  When you pay full price ($60 in some cases) for a game, you should be able to play it whenever you want, not just IF you have internet connection.  I actually start to feel like I paid full price for a game that is still not being given to me.  If this trend continues, and gamers like myself are left unable to play their games simply because of we are unable to get decent internet connection, then at the very least, I believe the price of games should be lowered.
