Will it be possible to unlock ME1 PS3 save files to back up to USB drives?

I regularly back up my save files to a flash drive but it's not possible with ME1. Is there a workaround or a forthcoming patch to correct this?

I'm only using a trial of PS Plus that came with my console and don't know if I want to continue it. I know PS Plus allows cloud storage but from what i've read with elsewhere people had issues importing save games that were saved in cloud storage.

I'd like for Bioware to fix this too, please. ME2 and ME3 save games were not locked so this seems like a bug with ME1. It's not like Bioware has any reason to lock ME1 saves but not lock ME2 and ME3. Given the the ability to import saves between games and the time it takes to play each one, it seems really important to be able to back them up without forcing people to subscribe to PS Plus.
