Xbox one controller works in launcher but not in game (PC - Origin)

So I can load up the launcher with no issues and it registers the controller and changes the icons accordingly but then as soon as I'm in the games themselvse, it's like it's not plugged in, if I have steam big picture mode open, it'll move and intereact with the controller but the games don't register at all. I've tried with the controller plugged in, via bluetooth, and the xbox dongle. No luck

  • So I went through all of my virtual drivers and devices and disabled them one at a time. The culprit was HID-compliant game controller. As soon as I disabled that and rebooted my computer. Origin recognised my controller like nothing ever happened. Had this before with some of the Lego games but it keeps re-enabling itself.

  • @f71CkY  Do you have anything else plugged in? I had this issue with a bluetooth Xbox One Controller. I had other controllers/joysticks plugged into my computer via USB that were causing conflict issues, as the game didn't know which to use. Once I unplugged those I launched the game via Steam Big Picture Mode and enabled Xbox configuration Support and Extended Feature Support. Controller is now working properly.

  • I'm on the Origin version of the game. I unplugged everything except my controller, mouse, and keyboard from my setup, still the same result. I've also tried using steam to launch the game with Xbox controller support and extended feature but alas, no avail

  • Just had the same thing happen to me. Was happily playing ME1 on the controller using Steam (about 13 hours so far). The controller (wired 360) suddenly bugged out whilst talking to Joker on the Normandy (I'd just taken charge of the ship on the citadel). I quit the game. Restarted it. Controller not seen. I figured, let's restart everything, so if that sorts it. Restarted the PC. Launched Steam. Launched the game. The main menu where you get to select the games happily sees the controller, but then when I launch ME1, nadda, nothing, nix. I even thought maybe a the save was corrupted to roll back to an earlier one, and again ME1 still not seeing the controller.

I managed to fix it. Right-click on the game in the Steam list and select Properties>Controller and Enable Steam Input.

You know it's working because it has a controller config pop up in the bottom right.

Still...not sure why it should be necessary to have to est and overwrite as the game should have controller support as a default.

  • Thank you for that its fixed it for me too so i can finally use my xbox controller
