Hello 🙂
The situation I've come to face in the game is that if you want to win races and set records, you need to have one of the top tier cars that have a high horsepower and top speed, limit. (I have completed the 'journey' 100% now). Besides aesthetic preference, I don't feel there is much incentive to use other cars... Noticed this while in the later half of the game and on-wards with SpeedWall scores etc.
The roads are very big/wide and forgiving. It feels like 250kph/155mph is the overall average speed and being able to hit 320kph+/200mph+ is relatively easily. Reaching top speed isn't really a rare occurrence!
Instead of more difficult AI and faster cars... Can we have better drivers? More sense of reward for finding that perfect handling balance for drift and/or grip racing. In real life, Touge/mountain road racing for example, there IS such thing as too much power. Because the roads can get so technical and you can't make use of that power. Handling, car balance, and driver skill are key here.
HighHP/TopSpeed seems to rule. Perhaps one way to rectify this is if more technical and tight courses/roads are added. That way we'll need control the throttle and control our braking not just flattening those triggers on the control, instead of seemingly going full throttle for 85% of a race. Players who put time into tuning the handling will be rewarded instead of just being taken over on the straights by Ferrari/Lambo's easily achieving their top speed. We'll also be able to use the other alternate favorite and lower horsepower and cars we are more familiar with and love, competitively.
Sure, I love the highways and drag strip like roads too. But with so much opportunity to hit ridiculously high speeds, I think it's overshadowing anything else.
I'm a big fan of 'Initial D', and watching Japanese motoring shows like 'Hot Version International'. Just searching those keywords on youtube, maybe paired with 'touge' should give some examples of roads and races where horsepower isn't king. Handling, car balance, and driver skill are.
Also here is one of my favorite videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7nrK9AXK-0
(This shows how tight, technical and intense mountain touge can be. No lights except your headlights either. Might be a bit of an extreme example but still.)
Anyway, I'm sure you can come up with other ways to tackle it too.
Can we have the other cars a bit more relevant for competitive play? 🙂
