G29 steering wheel stopped working in NFS Heat since EA App Update (?)

Hi everyone, 

Need For Speed Heat is currently on sale on Steam. I've bought the game, but my G29 Logitech steering wheel is not getting recognised in the game anymore since a couple of days. It's being recognised as an Xbox Controller instead, with a wrong layout.

Others in the Need For Speed Heat Steam discussions report the same issue with all types of wheels. Apparently this has been happening since the last EA App Update.

My wheel is working fine in games like Forza Horizon 5, and I've tried fixing the issue by reinstalling the game and EA launcher, and trying different kinds of Steam controller settings to no avail. 

Is there any help you can provide us with?
