Impossible to win tournament without spending a bucket load of gold

So it is literally impossible to win a tournament without spending a bucket load of gold.  I am VIP 8 - I get 8 tickets and they refresh around 1 an hour.  Even if I use every single possible ticket during a tournament, I still don't finish above 500 (without ever losing a race and pulling 900 points per race with a maxed out top of class car).

So I am guessing to win you would need to spend at least 500 gold on ticket refresh - the highest I have ever got was 2nd place and it took a lot of gold to get there.

EA need to make tournaments more realistic for people who don't spend a ton of money on gold - the current system is completely unfair.

  • Well, I'm agree with you in the main idea, tournaments are only for people that are spending lots of gold there, somebody post a picture with position No. 1, I remembered shows a total of 110k point more or less, in 48 hrs tournament. So normally without spending gold you get around 40k points, the difference between those are 70k points, after you raise the "1" group only can get 500 point per race, that's a total of 140 tickets to raise 110k points, for us is around 8 fuel refill and everyone is 60 gold, that's 480 gold and you earn 500 gold if you're the champion, so for me is worthless do that, but if somebody with less VIP need to spent even more gold.

In the another part of your post I'm not agree with you, racing all the ticket without refill I almost always finished in Top 50 and some times in Top 25, the most important thing I noticed is you need to start racing in the very same moment that the tournament start, you raise easily the top of the list and then race every time you have a chance, don't wait until all the tickets are refilled.

For example, you race your 8 tickets in the start of the tournament and raise 1st place with 9000 points and I do the same but 5 min late than you, I raise 2nd place with the same 9000 points, and nobody else is racing only you and me, after that you wait until your 8 tickets are refilled but I'm racing every hour, at the end both finished with 18000 points but now I'm 1st and you're 2nd, only because I raced first than you.

So if you consider that with all the players racing almost at the same time, the player that finish more quickly gonna have the best place, somebody said even the time that every single device takes to load and finish is different so there are some seconds of advantage or disadvantage and at the end can mean better position in the tournament.

    Happy racing!!

  • Nice discussion, I'm happy to add a few cents of mine 🙂

Agree with @peniastall, reaching TOP50-TOP250 is normal when using all the tickets available. I was capable of reaching TOP25 once for about 240 gold (and getting back 250). Though I do not like the idea you have to pay to win, I don't much care... it may not be fair, but still it is reasonable, right? Otherwise, would there be like 100 players capable of playing out all their tickets, would they be judged by a coin toss, who will win? Is it not ok to be willing to invest some gold and real time to get some advantage?

Considering you get 900 gold per winning, and you may reach that position with something like 600-1000 gold (depending mainly on your vip status), it is everybodys choice. The more people will want to do that, the higher the price will rise, and then less people will want to compete. I lost my interest in tournaments when there is nothing to look for. I still need about 10k of tourney points to buy my last stack of F40 blueprints, and then only 3 races per day to get a handful of gold through the daily achievement 🙂

I'm the winner of the post and 110k points. The champion earns 900 of gold! And to complete the 70k plus points you need 140 races, with 7 tickets, you need 20 refills, wich means 1200 of gold.

I no longer race for Gold positions (25th place or better) as the only benefit of winning top positions is to gain trophy points quickly, a bit of extra cash (and more useless VP). If you no longer need trophy points to buy BP in the TS, then you're simply wasting gold (and time) to come in 25th or better. Spending 1200 gold to get 900 back is bad economics unless you need the trophy points that badly or if you feel it's worth the gold and time invested for the $250k prize money, or a chance at the $500k main prize (hardly an incentive in my opinion).

300 gold buys you 10 refills (60-90+ races depending on VIP level) and in half the time it takes to race 140 tournament races (connecting to server lag), you could run a heap of boss events and bag $450k plus in a days racing.

E.g. If you have 15 boss races with maxed out BP, that's 45 races you can run in the morning and 45 in the afternoon. Total of 90 races, which can be achieved with 300 gold in refills on VIP 8 or above (or thereabouts). Race well and you're guaranteed to get between $2k-$4k just for the replay... then add an Average of $5k per race in Mystery Rewards and you've got on Average of about $8k per replay.... That's $720k for 300 gold... and you would have picked up a few materials in the process!

I'm on VIP level 4 (Max 14 Fuel) and get on average $250 per day from Boss events with no more than one refill a day!

The only reason I still race in tournaments is to pick up the bit of extra cash from races ($1.5-$2k per race) which amounts to about $40k per day, and the +-1400 trophy points for leveling up and finishing under 250 (I don't buy more tickets anymore). More than enough to buy up remaining F40 BP. If EA were to include some SE BP's in the Tourney Store, I might invest a bit more time in Tournaments for trophy points, but until then, tournaments are a sideshow I don't take too seriously anymore.

Man, you're perfectly right. If someone is planning to run for first place to win money or gold, it is a total waste.

I only run to be the champion because I wanna be THE CHAMPION! :D

You're not playing enough. I am level 4 VIP - I get 6 tickets. Same refresh rate. I consistently finish top 500, many times top 250. I have finished top 100 once, and I did buy one refill. I always do the top level race as well.

You just don't play as much, and that's what sets you back. I don't care enough to spend money on gold to get higher VIP level or to spend money on ticket refills.

  • I stated very clearly that I raced every single ticket in the 48 hour period - so to say I don't race enough is quite simply wrong.  And I also stated I always race at the top level (900 points) and never lose a race (all my tourny cars are maxed out on PR).

  • @PaladineUK Yes, you did. But with using all the tickets for 900 points, which can get you about 1 or 2 races close to tier 1, normally grants you TOP100 most likely, sometimes even TOP50, so if you claim not to reach better than TOP500, we are kinda suspicious 🙂
