Let's talk about road blocks

NFS 2015 is terrible when it comes to cops. And there were 2 types of road blocks (without spike strips):

1. only barriers that slow you down

2. walls where you can't drive through

I watched the gamescom trailer again and saw these walls again:

And personally I think that this type of road block is unnecessary and gamebreaking. In a race or such you're getting stopped from 200 to 0 in a second. It's just not fair.

I also saw them in front of cop cars:

Are we forced to not crash into police cars at a road block?

And will there be again this type of roadblock?

Then in NFS 2015 there were no random places for road blocks, they were programmed to be in a exact spot. Hope we see this is fixed and there are normal road blocks like in the earlier NFS titles.

  • These kinds of roadblocks take me back to the MW 2005 PSP version, in which the only roadblock types there were were these full proof concrete and metal squares with two cop cars inside that would reduce you to absolute nothing the moment you hit them.

As you pointed out, in the GamesCom trailer, the roadblocks are "protected" with concrete barriers, i just hope that this was for trailer purposes... unless the Runner cars get some Titanium push bars or something

If this is how they're tackling the roadblock matter, they should take inspiration in NFS HP 2010. The roadblocks there were actually pretty balanced.

  • My opinion on 2015's roadblocks:

    -Smashable Barriers:

In my opinion, this is the most pointless roadblock in 2015, as it doesn't matter where, when or how you smash through it, you just go through it without thinking, lose a bunch of speed, and get back on your toes. They should have had a specific way for you to go through the block in a safer or more efficient way to reward you if you did it correctly, and punish you if you did it wrong / carelessly.

    -Slalom Block:

I really liked these. They were a new and interesting take on the roadblock, as you had to worry about more than just how you entered the block.

    -Spike Strip Block:

Simply a "Stay alert or you get punished" scenario. Not the best, but they're good.

    Complete Block:

I'm a bit so-so about these. They force you to turn around and make new decisions ASAP, but they also limit the possible options for you to decide on.

About the usage of the immovable barriers, it really depends on the usage. Sometimes, they should be there, sometimes, they shouldn't.
