Need for Speed Shift won't start

I have the PC version, running on Windows 8.1 Just bought the game, it installed properly (at least I think). Also my laptop exceeds all the minimum requirements. I've tried many times, but after I hit play either from desktop shortcut, autorun menu, or clicking the actual .exe file, the CD just spins for a bit, then stops. Nothing happens. Very frustrating... I have no idea what the problem could be.

I tried contacting EA with the Live Chat, but I waited almost 2 hours (during evening eastern time) and no response. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi @40rott,

I will copy the relevant information from your dxdiag:

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
           Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Chip type: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
               DAC type: Internal
            Device Type: Full Device
             Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0166&SUBSYS_05971028&REV_09
         Display Memory: 1664 MB
       Dedicated Memory: 32 MB
          Shared Memory: 1632 MB

Looking at the data, you were referring to the display memory. Since that is shared with the rest of your system, you cannot fully rely on this. This is also the reason why the requirements for games ask for dedicated memory--which in your case is only 32mb.

Since your system does not meet the minimum requirements I cannot guarantee the game will run on your system. Sometimes a game will still run, as you experienced, but we will be unable to further troubleshoot any issues should they occur.

One last thing I noticed in your dxdiag is that you had a lot some Windows Update failures. If your Windows installation is not updated it can also cause issues. Please search for Windows Update on your system and you should be able to run the update. If it still fails, try doing it in a clean boot.

As for contacting us, we're open from 8AM-11PM CST, Monday through Saturday.

Well this sucks. I'll try updating my PC. I've been looking into a Windows XP emulator for some older games that won't work... maybe it will work with that, I hope. Really don't want to have to buy/install a new graphics card.

Every time I've tried LiveChat, it has been during those times; at least 4-5 times I've kept it open 1-2 hours with nobody coming on ☹️   So who knows if I'll ever get the digital code, but thanks for all your help anyways!

I don’t think NFS Shift runs on Win8.1. For all Ik, it runs on Win XP (SP2), Vista, & maybe 7.
