If you experience any issues successfully running a Release Date Check for any game, this generally indicates a network connectivity issue.

Please perform the troubleshooting steps for your connection outlined below.

A great first step in resolving connectivity issues is to power-cycle your modem and/or router. To power-cycle, simply unplug the power cable for your modem and router from the power outlet on your wall and leave them unplugged for at least thirty seconds.

Once powered off for thirty seconds, plug the modem in again. Once the modem is receiving a signal (indicated by the flashing indicator lights) plug the router in, if a router is present.

If at all possible, plug the Ethernet cable from the modem directly into the computer for optimal connectivity. If you are unable to bypass the router entirely, make sure to have the ports for your game opened in the router.

The ports for each title can be found in the game manual included with each title.

For current titles, most of these manuals are available as a PDF file through Origin or included with your game installation.

Some programs running on a PC can interfere with online access. Anti-virus and firewall software are commonly associated with online connectivity issues.

Windows Firewall is a standard feature of the Windows operating system, and you may need to manually allow your game access to the Internet through this firewall.

Microsoft has a walkthrough of the process for doing this on their support site here:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Allow-a-program-to-communicate-through-Windows-Firewall
If allowing both Origin and your game through the firewall does not resolve your connectivity issue, please attempt to minimize the number of background tasks running on your system by restarting your system in what is called a “clean boot.”

To perform an MSCONFIG or “clean boot” please follow the directions on the Microsoft support site here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

If the connectivity difficulties persist, please feel free to contact a Game Advisor for more assistance.

  • Yeah I'm in South Africa and I have tried chatting to one of your 'agents' but keep getting redirected 'to another department'....

Please help me sort out this frustrating issue.

Error message: "Release date check failed"

I mean, how hard can it be to install a game?

We would also recommend to make sure that the date/time settings in both the bios and Windows are correctly set-up. Incorrect settings have been known to be the source of such error messages.
