NFS: The Run joystick question

Can someone recommend a joystick to use with The Run? I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and it won't map. It's virtually impossible to play the game with it because mapping won't save and when I go left/right with the stick, all I get are views. Surely there must be some way around this? I'm not comfortable using the keyboard at all.
