Well, La Ferrari event was different, as you have no loaned car, and made normal blueprints throughout. And those blueprints haven't disappeared even if the event was left unfinished and bps earned weren't enough for the car. So I guess if they recycle that event, we may still take part.
Anyway, it would not be a big problem for other special events to work for players that already took part. Everything that would be needed is one screen with: "you may use your old car, but you will lose it if you do not finish the event, do you want to take part?" And if so, one would get all the events, would slice through first chapters like a breeze, and win a few more blueprints to upgrade the car.
