@mrtun3rwrote:Ugh, why does everybody want the characters from Payback to return? They're awful. Tyler is just a Paul Walker knock-off that was mathematically perfected to be as dull as possible, Jess's entire character design pretty much screams "I was created by a feminist!" and Mac... well Mac is ok but that's only in contrast with the other two. The story is just a mixed bag of unnecessary drama, illogical behavior and cartoony villains.
I agree with your opinion of Tyler 100%.
I couldn't possibly disagree more with your opinion of Jess. Jess is a smart, sassy, strong, independent woman and that makes her sexy as all get-out. I guess some guys might be intimidated by that. I'm not sure exactly what you mean about being created by a feminist, but I can tell you this - she is quite flirtatious with the undercover guy she occasionally hauls around (I can't think of his name). Maybe some don't catch it because it's too subtle? Her personality has the most nuance of any character, and she is hands-down my favorite female NFS character ever. I loved her the minute she shows up in the prologue as the getaway driver and yells at the bank robbers not to bleed on her seats! LOL
I appreciate how they never give the remotest impression that Jess feels anything toward Tyler or Mac other than friendship and loyalty. Neither men are her type, and if they tried to hint at a romance it would just feel forced. Of course it wouldn't be essential to the story anyhow, so, again, I'm glad they didn't try to go down that path.
Mac is awesome as well. He has this laid back, zero F's given attitude, and the more arrogant someone is to him, the more he trolls them with humorous disrespect. Some of his lines in Speedcross are hilarious. Cliche'? Sometimes, but the lines are delivered with perfect comedic timing.
Jason Munroe (Barracuda): "They call me the Barracuda."
Mac: "Can I call you Barry?" - LOL Then he keeps calling him Barry from then on.
Munroe: >sarastic < "You must be proud."
Mac: >immediately retorts< "Not as much as my mum." LOL It's not even what he says but how he says it. His voice has this innocent, unassuming quality when he says it that totally pulls off the burn without sounding cliche.'
That's just a couple of examples and probably not even the best ones
"I'm not sure exactly what you mean about being created by a feminist..."
Well let's start with the obvious: while she's far from being Sarah Ryder, she's not much to look at, in contrast to Tyler, Marcus, Rav and Mac whom all look like male models. Sound familiar? Then there's the fact that she acts unnecessarily tough and patronizing when talking to men but never with women, as feminists like to do. And while I'm not saying she should be flirting with every man that crossed her path (or at all) it does feel an awful lot like the writers put her in that position just so she can act like a stone cold b***h, something also heavily implied from Tyler's conversations with the Silver Six guy.
Taken separately these things might sound like I'm nitpicking, but together they paint a pretty clear picture.

As a protagonist should be, there's way too much drama in this game. Only other NFS game that comes close is The Run, but at least that game went all the way.
The story in The Run starts with the protagonist getting cubed in a mob junkyard and consists mainly of him killing cops or getting shot at by the mafia with actual guns, not to mention the plot actually justifies the need to race. Whereas the villains in this game are almost cartoonishly stupid, they're made out to be this major crime syndicate yet they come up with plans like "blow up the protagonists house in front of him so he gets scared or "bait the protagonists with gold plated cars and place slow ticking time bombs on them" just so they can protect their street racing racket because apparently it brings in millions. Seriously?

Sorry man, I disagree about Jess's looks. She's cute, and I don't think her looks are "downgraded" in some way compared to the guys. Rachel in NFSU2 was old enough to be my mom, and Niki in Carbon looked like she was old enough to be my mom, and Mia from Most Wanted looked like a hooker. Jess has the most personality of any of them, and I would definitely want her on my team and as a friend.
I agree the story is cheesy. But how is it any different that Fast 'n' Furious? Who cares? It moves the progression along and gives us some cool cutscenes. I admit, I was put off by the initial reveal trailer for Payback, but now that I'm into it, I think it's great. I mean, if you didn't like the whole Mustang chase, Jess blasting out of the truck with the Regera, then I can't help you...

Jessica Madsen is the one who played her. I can see the resemblance . Very pretty .
- 8 years agoAgree man, it could be worse. I mean too many girls today destroy their face with those stupid lipsoperations etc, you are lucky today if you find a girl that. Has natural pretty face like Jessica Madsen.

I have a complaint with your comments about the NFS ladies!

My Response to this is as follows:
If your gonna cherry pick who has been the best looking for NFS Ladies, then I highly suggest you get your eye's Re-examined!
Jess in payback is not even 1/4 the women MIA was from Most Wanted if you're comparing the two ladies side by side.
Mia has the spicy attractive face & body that Jess doesn't have!
Jess has a nice face but the rest is chicken feed to me!
To attack Mia is So Un-American to even do!
I love Mia and in the real world, her real name is Josie Maran.
She is a real-life smart business lady selling argan oil to women on QVC these days and rolling in the cash!
Also, you have the nerve to say Mia looked old enough to be your Mom??? WTF??
Now if your under age that might make sense, but if you're of age then dude take the blinders off!
MIA is an ICON model in the NFS Series who made Mens heart's race around the world!
Let me further say JESS whom you seem to adore acts more dominate towards the guys in the game & that is such a turn off to me.
I guess the scriptwriters made Jess a cold-hearted uncaring personality in the game to make it look like she's bad to the bone.
Again I don't need another version of Tomb Raider Lara Croft female type!
Even though Lara Croft can be quite sensual and yet be dominate at the same time in Character.
Lara Croft has more going for her then JESS!
Yes, I know Lara Croft is maybe off boundary's here in comparing video game to video game.
I use this to illustrate Lara Croft came long before the character JESS was a thought up long ago.
As for the lovely lady Nikki from Carbon, you say she is old enough to be your Mom...Dude really???
Nikki was a real tiger in them leather boots and her presumptuous foreplay with her eyes in the camera cutscenes!
Maybe go re-load Carbon and Most wanted and watch them cutscenes over again....Both ladies got the looks to kill with Love!
Jess has more the personality of a house cat than a wild Tiger!
Nothing against house cats...I love all kinds of pets...but I'm comparing personalities here!
Tigers will pounce when you least expect it....house cats not so much!
Same with Jess who seems to push away the guys rather than draw them into her life.
I think the song (Cold As Ice) from the 70's Rock band Foreigner describes Jess best!
