Realistic or not, to anyone outside of the US an automatic gearbox is something you try and persuade your grandad to use because he keeps grinding the gears in your car now that his clutch foot is a little shaky. It is something that people use because they have failed their driving test 5 times in a NORMAL car.
Why have such great European cars represented if you are going to mock their very existence by putting an automatic gearbox in them - something they would never even contemplate in reality. Did Ariel really license you using their name and associating it with an idiot box ?
Not havng the manual option has not only stopped me playing NFS MW, it has stopped me buying any future EA 'driving' game - be it realistic or not.
And, by the way, there is no such thing as a realistic computer game - they are GAMES , even the so-called simulator genres.

then the people who will get butt hurt over missing a gear will set it to automatic. seriously most games have both but set auto as the default. its not that hard. i really dont like the fact that you cannot see what gear you are in even if it is an auto. id like that atleast.

Manual gears, don't exist in Arcade Games, even HI and LO, have been eliminated for FORWARD and REVERSE, 🙂
Those were the good old days.

Watch the driver, and listen to the number of gear changes (and the sounds) and you'll realize most, if not all, of the cars in the game are in fact manual transmission.
I did notice one of the cars (an automatic I assume) did actually seem to simulate an automatic transmission, and quite well too.
I do love manual transmission (and yes, I am in the US, stop with the stereotypes) and I wish they would have included it.
- Anonymous12 years agoI just rented this game because i loved the old one but i will not buy this simply because there is no manual transmission. Racing games are probly my favorite genre of game, and a racing game without the simple feature of a manual is pathetic in my personal opinion.
- 12 years agoAlright, I agree that most people in America are stupid, but most people in the world are stupid as well. I am an American, but more importantly I'm German, which is far smarter than any other country hands-down (a fact, look at history).
I have never owned an automatic, and never will. Automatics are for people that use a car solely for transportation because there is not another practical form. 'spirited' drivers, or drivers with adrenaline/thrill addiction use manuals because total control of your vehicle is the only way to drive.
Europeans may have more manuals because they are cheaper to purchase, and this is where your dislike (jealousy) of America comes in- because we created the modern world and economy you Europeans enjoy today and we have profited from it, and have more money to waste on luxuries. That, and our countrys unique system was revolutionary, and pose as the desire of all people (give or take a few things here and there).
European, or German I should say, has been the uncontested leader in automotive superiority.... That's no question, but I will say- America did create the muscle car, which hasn't been displaced for sheer insanity of untamed power in 50 years. So don't mock America, because most the world secretly wishes they were us, benefits from, or has more problems than us. Also, America is made from Europeans, and excelled because of it- and is populated by members of every nation on earth... So, get an education, or loose the jealousy-
By the way, forza is a realistic game.... And to say games shouldn't have a choice in transmission because its a game of some type is why games are beginning to blow dogs for quarters. Choice is what makes a game fun, and choice should be the only consistently growing aspect of games....
