Anyone else thinks that the special event time trials and nitro rushes are too hard for people that dont have 5k+ gold to spend? Cause I only got 50 gold, and the very first time trial of this special event I finished with 3 seconds to spare, and the nitro rush with just a single second to spare. And I also didn't crash or drive into cars either. So I do hope this gets fixed, because every special event so far has had that problem, and it's starting to get annoying. Even the last special event(which was for the LaFerrari if I'm not mistaken), i had all 3 required cars maxed out, yet I still had only few seconds to spare on time trials and nitro rushes.

The Speedhunters special event Time Trials and Nitro Rushes aren't really too hard. In fact, they're too easy.
I have over 6,000 Gold and I'm preparing to spend quite a handful of it on buying Nissan Skyline BNR34 blueprints. Using Gold to skip a race is a waste.
So the problem isn't with the races. I don't mean to be blunt, but the problem is you. You just need to get better.
Here's some tips to win the Speedhunters special event Time Trials and Nitro Rushes:
1. Keep your speed high at all costs.
2. Drift very slightly to maintain speed. Drift at a wide angle and you'll lose speed.
3. Avoid collisions. (you already do this)

as the r34 is only a 6 star car are we to assume that it'll be a classic sports car?

Probably. Though technically with 6* it can be muscle car as well.
Anyway, since I've been away for more than a week and just started the event - is anyone far enough in the SE to know how many bps are needed for higher levels? (and therefore, how many blueprints we need to buy if we want to max it out)

Each day is 15BP and the first upgrade requires 20BP so I am guessing but:
At Best I expect it will be:
20
20
25
25
30
But it could be as bad as:
20
25
30
35
40
So even in the best case scenario you are probably looking at needing to buy 45BP at a price of 325 Gold per 5 - total price 2925 Gold which quite frankly is ridiculous. As a level 8 VIP (almost level 9) I am sick of this game ripping me off - to get all the event cars and cash cars you literally need to spend thousands of euros - for a game... a mobile, boring, repetitive game with no unique features... I am not giving them any more of my money.
