It did not work for me when I switched to the same car and drive around for a little, the dirt and scratches still show up again on the car.
Also, they need to have an option to turn OFF the exterior damage permanently. Doesn't matter if you enter a race, exploring free-roaming around the map, drive at daytime or drive around nighttime. They just need to look at the example of GT Sport and Forza Horizon 4. I can drive straight into a wall in Horizon 4 and the car still looks brand new. Love it!

@DreamMachines There gona show up again once you start driving around. Especially if you hit the grass or go offroad. When you initially switch cars are the scratches gone? I do this trick prior to a race so when you get that little intro at the beginning you have a clean car like everyone else and yours isnt the only one at the racing line, filled with scratches. Also a good trick if your snapping pics right next to a race and can just clean her up.
