A lot of people completely dismiss this by saying, "It's an arcade racer, not a simulator" Yes, Need For Speed is an arcade racer,
BUT, arcade racers don't have to mean drifting around every turn to go faster. There are many great arcade racers of both current and previous time where grip is the fastest way to go around corners:
-ALL the Need For Speed games before 2009
-Test Drive: Unlimited 1 & 2
-Project Gotham Racing series
-Blur
-The Crew
-Driveclub
And more...
...But I personally think people should talk about more examples than just the Forza Horizon series and select Need For Speed games. Perhaps Ghost (Ghost games develop the games, EA are the publishers) will be more likely to listen if people mention more than, "FORZA HORIZON" or "UNDERGROUND" and "MOST WANTED 2005" and "CARBON" (Not to say they weren't great games)
Edit 6/13/2017: Some people have also been saying that you couldn't drift in the old Need For Speed games, at least when you're not in a dedicated drift mode with different physics. I can prove that to be false by showing you some videos:
-Drifting in Underground 2 Freeroam was fairly doable, you just had to get a powerful enough car, turn traction control off, and avoid spinning out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcqqxYxHvXc
-Drifting in Most Wanted 2005 was much more doable AND a bit more accessible. All you had to do was get a powerful car and tune it as shown in the tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x2DTwxzMIY
-Drifting in Carbon Freeroam was very similar to Most Wanted 2005, but this time, the easiest way to do it is with a muscle car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrfLj8kkGuM
-According to this video, you can also drift in Prostreet Grip races: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB8g-9rDl_I
-Even Undercover allows you to drift: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeX2tspkVZw
Drifting in those games is fun because it's not the fastest way of turning around a corner, so you're not forced to do it.
When you make drifting the fastest way around the corner AND make it earn you Nitrous, it takes the fun out of drifting, and punishes anyone that wants to use grip around a corner.
I don't care how easy the drifting is, as long as I can go around a corner faster without drifting.
