The Verdict:NFS Payback(Give Your Reviews)

Ok to be honest,i haven't yet bought the game, but i watched the whole storyline gameplay from Gameriot's Channel and i feel the Payback is definately one of the longest games,we are gonna have from here on,but do you guys think it was good? i mean if i just compare it to the run, this game is way awesome, but i was expecting way too much more than what was given, especially for the Biggest race of all,

The "Outlaw Rush"

 1) The most amazing race of all with only 8 drivers, well the race was long, but it was not that exciting, since those 8 drivers were easy to beat in the 1st leg right after completing a mile(well Gameriot used the P1 which was clearly a dominant car for the race),but it would be more fun if there would be more drivers than 8,lets just say 16,if not then  at-least good enough to make competition fair enough, although having 3 different enforcers(Nova,Holtzman,Vasilev) was a great element but once they got taken out,it was just us and the road,no competition.

2) Moving on to the 2nd leg,was quite fair enough since a heavy police chase heads up after 2 miles are completed, but again more than 6 drivers would be real competition, and talking about the chase i would really love to see how all crews take care of the Police going around Silver Canyon,Downtown,Silver Rock, and other Fortune Valley areas, could add a Pumping and Exciting element in the race like the Airfield 73 Rescue Scene(dunno about ya'all but i loved it,after all that's Need For Speed Baby),also i agree that the game would be alot fun if we could get to do all/some of the Cutscene/Stunt parts and not let the AI do it itself

3) And then the final leg which gets replaced by Lina Novaro(meaning we will never get to know who won the Oultaw Rush the 1st time,or maybe before morgan),the race was intresting although i would say if the Collector would be here with Novaro along with her and enforcers of House Trying to stop us during race would be exciting,as point to be made, this was biggest race of all,Novarro,The Collector and all House crew would do anything to stop Tyler to win(or atleast try to),making competition fairly exciting for us,as we saw in the Gameplay trailer where House Enforcers were not only tough but were fast enough to stop Tyler and His Crew to get to the Truck and Steal the Regera,i really thought that we get to see alot of Those Enforcers in all races, and if not in all then atleast in the Outlaw Rush to stop Tyler Morgan and his Crew

Note:i am not saying that the game is not good or that this race was boring, the race is exciting and i am waiting for new and future updated once i get a hold of my game of Payback(P.C.) but to be honest with you guys,Need For Speed has set up a great high level of expectation with their games to me since i played NFSTR,and to me i don't really think Payback is that good enough to get to my favourite games list since i expected more from the game than what we get today, and if not the complete game, atleast the Outlaw Rush which i had more expectations of all races against Street League's or the Broker event or the Jobs right after it, since it was the only thing this whole Storyline was all about,i thought it would be more than just what we got now, although the Delerict Concept is unique and loving,i wanna see more delericts available in near future,my personal favourite one is the Fairlady and its a perfect Drift Spec car

Feel Free to reply and add to the Verdict of the game,or the Outlaw's Rush,or my review of the game i gave,i only wanna give my thoughts regarding the Outlaw's Rush as it was the only Race in the game i thought would be the most amazing race in every ways,my ratings for Game is 2/5 based on the Outlaw Rush(Remember i gave my thoughts of the game regarding the gameplay's i watched from Gameriots Youtube Channel of Payback,i might change my review when i get a hold of my game)

  • I have been playing NFS since I was about 7 years old, thats the last 13 years of my life. Payback has, so far, been very good to me. Although I do have some concerns and some critiques, as well as some ideas.

The story was good, I feel, especially when compared to NFS 2015, which was cute but way too corny. The story line is solid and didnt feel dragged out at times, with a good ending (pertaining to Marcus Weir) that I felt intrigued by.

Devs... I caught your NFS Pro Street, Carbon, Most Wanted, and The Run references. And I lost myself. I flipped out. Thank you. I fangirled SO hard.

(Achem). Back to my critique. Gameplay is great! I love all 5 car types. Race cars have good cornering and drifting ability, without compromising power, Drift cars go fast and drift easily and well, Drag cars go stupid fast but cant corner well (as it should be), Runner cars can be fast and agile or slower yet strong (beautifully made for cops); however, Offroad feels like it could be tweaked. I, personally, feel like higher-end offroad cars drift way, way, WAY too much, even on dirt paths. Even when I have the tire grip on the rear and power steering on high, my car loses control too often to be fun. My brother seconded me so I know I am not alone. I think Most Wanted 2012 had a good grip on offroach tires - they gave you higher performance offroad with the slight loss of grip on tarmac. I feel that the Offroad cars are Race cars with very little extra grip offroad and extra air capabilities. Dont know if that was intended, but end-game offroad races arent as fun as beginning and mid-game (for me, at least). This is magnified when watching the enemy AI racers keep straight lines and tight turns as you uncontrollably attempt to reattain control of the out-of-control car.

While driving I have encountered a few issues. During the Silver Casino Loop circuit race, there is a raised curb area when heading towards the highway that my car will inconsistently "collide" with, at random speeds and places. This has happened at other places but I am only certain of this one. Another thing I find to be inconsistent: crash animations. I have crashed and NOT crashed when slamming my front end into things at 100+ mph. In one of my streams I was racing on the inner-city highway with my 300+ Nissan GTR and I slammed from 120+ mph at least 3 times to a dead stop and didnt get the animation and reset. Yet I have crashed at other places and get the reset. Why? I dont understand why it can be so inconsistent. I have even been reset when Ibcrash at 80 mph. Note: after crash animation, UI and in-world markers take long to reappear. Is that intended? I feel like its some sort of processing lag. This also happens very often with Drag races - extremely annoying for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th runs. Intended or not, I think its a terrible thing, and I believe it is not intended because I have gotten the UI for a moment in the 2nd run before (only one time).

More on gameplay: cops. Not enough. The cop-based events are SO good, with the exception of how quickly you "escape". Cops are very aggressive and tough, very fast and smart, but they only come when you engage a bait crate or cop-based event. I SERIOUSLY hope you guys are planning on adding some sort of free-roam cop system because that would make end-game so much better, fuller, and funner. Maybe add a toggle for cops, for those who want to use free-roam for activities and events? While allowing the cop-chase lovers to have their cop chases? The AI for cops and thugs is way on point with Payback. Please, Devs, dont let all that hard work only be seen in events and bait-crates. Maybe even add helicopters to cop chases, much like 2002 Most Wanted and Carbon.

Shipments and Speed Cards, now. I have mixed feelings about these. Shipments are easily attainable BUT they can be bought, giving Payback a very, very, very small area of "pay to win" since they contain in-game currencies such as cash and part tokens. Although, they are still attained when you get 50 stars (even from repeated activities), beat a challenge, or level up. The vanity items are definitely fun, as well. Speed Cards.. I would much rather have a classic system of upgrading my rides but I do see and appreciate how Speed Cards were approached. Having different manufacturers, perks, and levels adds a level of depth, yet the cards themselves take away a lot of personality from and connection to the upgrades. When you buy a new engine in past NFS titles, you feel like you got an engine upgrade. When you get an engine Speed Card... you just got a card for your engine? The randomness of perks, manufacturers, and levels adds to the grind but at the same time adds to annoyance, as racing games have normally been "grind for money to buy that new transmission" instead of "grind for Speed Cards in hopes of a level 15 Chidori exhaust card with a perk in brakes." Its new, different, and cool, but I feel it does not belong in a racing game. If the cards are that important, maybe add them as an addition to parts? Or, for example: a Nextech Engine card gives you a discount on an Engine with Nextech perks. RNG should simply not be prevalent in racing, but a Speed Card that can be used, instead of outright replacing car parts, could be a good incentive to win or excel in a race. Part tokens are quite hard to attain as well, and even buying level 1 parts costs a pretty penny, $9K per part! Thats $9K at least for one part token! I feel this was intended to make grinding races and buying Shipments more appealing, but I think adding a way to buy (with in-game currency) part tokens. Maybe a little shipment of 12 every restock or two? Its an idea, in case others feel the same way.

2 side notes: I had hoped wheelies would be more aggressive like in Pro Street, but they are too tame for my taste; when I first drove the Ford GT I was expecting a heavy American engine to grumble amd growl, instead of the Nissan GTR's sound file. I was used to the old, mid-2000's Ford GT sounding like a big meaty lumberjacks heart was being pounded inside the engine, it just doesnt fit for me.

I would give the game an overall 7.5/10. I am very happy with the game, but wish to see it reach its potential in the future.

Again.. Whoever's idea it was to add in Noise Bomb, Aki Kimura, a comment about Ryan Cooper, Wolf and TFK, Cross the cop, the Speed King, The Run's legendary race "The Run," and Most Wanted's Blacklist... I love you so much.

Yeah, hell all the references to other NFS game were cool, I loved the one about Aki Kimura and Cooper !

  • I've enjoyed the single player but multi player is dull.

    1. You can't join ranked matches with friends

    2. The races are way too short.

    3. Unless you use the koenisegg you don't have much chance of winming. Its got boring very quickly.

I don't tend to play much single player.... i'm far more interested in.playing online with friends against other groups of friends ie team v team events. NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 had multi player nailed. It was fantastic. I played it for 2 years and still have people on my friends list playing it now.

NFS Payback is a missed opportunity in respect of multi player

I enjoyed single player. It was abit grindy sometimes where I had to repeat a race like 20 times to actually win ( Was one or two rally races I found pretty hard), and my car level was just about correct. And yes I played only on hard, even though thoughts did come after repeating a race alot of changing to medium, but I managed to hanlde that pressure and didnt change to medium lol I wanted to get the full tough experience. The fact that I had to do it 20 times doesnt neccesarily mean I didnt like it, yes I got fairly mad at times, but in the long run I am quite happy about the face that it was tough. Im upset that there are only like 5-6 story type missions, where in between them there are the same races, but that isnt necessarily bad either tbh, but they could have made it longer. I play on high settings and I didn ejoy the graphics, they are medium yes but they arent bad either, Id say they are good enough for 2017. The cars, the tuning the design I really enjoyed.. and I really hope they will add more cars soon. And they lost some rating from me for adding stupid card system for tuning your car, it was alot better even in NFS 2015.

So either way il give the single player mode a 7/10 rating.

The multiplayer mode, oh my god, I generally never thought that Need for Speed multiplayer racing could be so horrible, the lags when somebody is right behind you, and flips you out off the road, even though on your screen he didnt even touch you, the ridiculous balancing system, and the fact that there are only two types of races and no FREE ROAM.

Regarding the free roam topic, first of all on the official site there was information, before release, that you will be able to free roam with your friends. Then they just edited it out right before release... Like what does that make them? Is that not fraud? If thats not fraud I dont what else is to be honest. Because to be honest that was one of my main reasons of purchasing the game, and thank god that I didnt buy the deluxe version.

    Multiplayer

Hit the streets and race to win. Take on challengers from all around the world as you compete to be the best.

Compete in Speedlists, which are free events against friends, or challenge other players in Free Roam. There are two types of Speedlists:

    • Casual: Casual Speedlists are 5-event tournaments. The best player is crowned at the end.
    • Ranked: Ranked Speedlists track the performance of each player on a competitive ranking system."

My rating for the need for speed multiplayer experience is 2/10. and 2 for the fact that it even exists....

My overall rating for this game will be 4/10

PS I changed my rating from 5 to 4 because of the terrible customer support.
