Vol.8 Racers Vs. Cops | A Players Feedback

I appreciate the concept of the Cops vs. Racers game mode, but I’ve noticed a few issues that could be improved for a more balanced/fun experience. Currently, as a racer, you're restricted to certain classes (A, A+, S), while the cops are always maxed out at (S+). This imbalance becomes particularly noticeable in lower-class races (A, A+), where cops catch up incredibly fast, making it difficult for racers to compete effectively.

Additionally, when a racer is taken down, they have to start from Zero KPH/MPH which gives cops an overwhelming advantage. Often, other cops are able to sit back and quickly strike back at high speeds, turning the racer into a cop almost instantly. It would be beneficial to allow racers some time to recover, perhaps by making their car intangible for 10 seconds after a takedown or a bump in speed for a 10 seconds.

On the cop side, there are too many NPC/AI cop cars, which often interfere with gameplay. I've encountered numerous situations where AI cop cars obstruct the path or even accidentally take down fellow player cops, also disrupting takedowns against Racers. It might enhance the experience if the game mode featured only online players, without AI/NPC cops. I'd also like to use the cop cars anywhere its kinda ashame you can't use them in freeroam.

This game mode has great potential, but my experience so far hasn’t been as fun as I’d hoped. I’m hopeful that I’m not alone in thinking that Racers vs. Cops could be improved upon.

  • what were you expecting from this team , they are anti gamer , fun is their least concern , the fact that they allow the cop player to just go off and respawn way ahead again means this mode is faulted by design , I played this mode once and will never touch it again thanks to that mechanics

  • Lmao I don't think it's that bad lmao but that's tough 🤣🤣 couldn't help but smile and laugh at this comment.

To me it just sounds like some kind of Negative Nancy trying to persuade people into thinking stuff is worse than it truly is...

No but yeah the update is kinda rough in some edges, mostly performance-wise and bugs that poke around here and there, I personally would like there to be less AI Cop cars as those seem like a nuisance for both Cops and Racers

When it comes to the performance of cop cars, I mean the game already kinda gives them a slowdown, no idea if its intentional or not, but they're pretty alright balance wise.

Think of this, even though one might have a souped up car, can you really trust a casual with that amount of power to be able to control the car enough to not fly past other racers and actually bust them?

in my races, as I'm honestly also learning how to escape and chase efficiently, plenty of racers escape, it's been rare to see a Race Shutdown actually happen unless the people paired in one team has spent copius amount of time in the game

It's hard to escape at first yes, but I'm confident the skill ceiling for being an actually good cop balances out that performance discrepancy between clases
if this wasn't the case and wasn't play tested, wouldn't you think they would've given us different classes for cops as well? Just saying.

But yeah, my only feedback: Reduce the amount of AI Cops

    for both team's sakes....

  • It's a crime that you made Cross's Corvette online exclusive like you did with the M3 GTR. It's also disappointing that you made the cop cars and the pursuit tech online exclusive as well. It would be nice if you'd make that available in story mode. This update is a letdown. If I want to do cops vs racers, I'll just play NFS Rivals or Hot Pursuit Remastered. What's next? You'll add Razor's Mustang and make it online exclusive too? This update is just disappointing. Don't shoot the messenger but yeah

  • Volume 8 is okay, but...

I'm still massively disappointed by the game in general. It's not that I don't like new content being added to the game, I like that, give us more of that!

The problem is just the absolute lack of soul. I did like Unbound when I first played it, but the more I played it, the more I just think, what in the flip has Criterion done with three years of development time they had besides turning the franchise into a really bad Burnout clone? And before you ask, no, Hot Pursuit 2010, Most Wanted, Rivals and 2015 that Criterion developed were actually good compared to Unbound.

The handling in Unbound is still the worst in the entire franchise. You can put a car onto full grip with TC enabled, drift initiation disabled and full downforce, and the car still handles like you were playing F1 2021 with 11-1 wing settings and minimal tire pressures. And also, the roads are heavily bumpy and undulated, so the chance of spinning out for legit zero reason is massive.

Another problem is that the single player gets zero new content save for the hot laps. Most new content gets locked behind Lakeshore Online, and if players don't have internet connection, they will never get the new cars. It's almost like Criterion wants to go back to the days of Rivals and 2015, turning NFS into an always online Burnout game, and that is no way to develop Need for Speed.

And I have even more things that Unbound needs, especially with the current volume, so here we go:

    1. Racers need to be able to use Pursuit technology as well. It worked absolutely fine with Hot Pursuit 2010 and Rivals, but the fact that only the cops can use Pursuit technology leaves the Racers defenseless, which makes it super unfair. And can I just emphasize that the cop cars are insanely OP? They all go 200+ mph and deal a massive amount of damage even though you just scratch them. Never have we seen a more unfair PVP mode ever.
    2. I myself said it before, and lots of other players expect it as well, there need to be AI opponents in Lakeshore Online once you start a playlist. This would make the Online more SP accessible, because you still have to put in the effort to get 1st, but you don't have to drive all by yourself. As a compensation, the payout needs to be increased as well, because doing playlists is still not as lucrative as doing Linkups. And also, what's the point of Drag races if you do them alone? And, I found out that if you start a Hot Pursuit playlist by yourself, the game will automatically end the event and give you the money for first place. Another important reason why we need AI in Lakeshore Online. And also, if nobody plays Unbound online anymore, you can still play it and make online progression if you desire.

The other things I'm asking for are rather minor, like reworking the gearing of the Mustang Dark Horse, because the 6th gear is incredibly long, making the car near inviable for S Class. In general, we need to be able to customize the gearing of cars because a lot of cars work much better with seven gears instead of eight, but we can't utilize it to our advantage because there is no option to change the gearing. It wouldn't even be that difficult to implement that. It worked out for Shift 2, so why not bring it back for Unbound?

Anyway, I'm still disappointed with Unbound. People keep complaining about several bugs and keep asking for new things, but nothing is being done to improve the game for all players, and that's sad.

Let's hope for the best, and maybe someone at Criterion will actually take the requests of the community to heart.

    Good day,

    Nico
