Consistent crashing when starting certain races

Product: Need for Speed: Unbound
Platform:PC
Summarize your bug When starting certain races, the game crashes to desktop and I lose all currency for the time period
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? One of the races is "Corner King" where it happens 100% of the time.
What happens when the bug occurs? The game crashes to desktop.
What do you expect to see? The game not crashing to desktop.

The board will not allow me to attach a zip file of the crash dumps or the crash dump file itself so I have uploaded it to MEGA: https://mega.nz/file/h2oFRRAQ#UEJHfoSm085OmPt0v1AGjfZiJImUgY47Uuat2eNxZVE

If there is more information I can provide please let me know.

  • have you tried lowering the transfer speeds on your ram to the base speeds if youre using DDR4 try lowering it to 2133mhz and if youre on DDR5 try lowering it to 4400mhz. Ive managed to play for an hour and a half no crashes.

Unfortunately after the latest patch the crashes are back, this time with a GPU error:

Fully updated Windows 11, fully updated drivers (Nvidia 527.56). All overclocks disabled. Game preset: ultra with DLSS in Quality mode, 3840x1080 fullscreen vsync on (presumably 144 Hz)

Unfortunately, deleting both caches does not help this time around.

However, throwing the game to one of my side displays which has a more conventional 1920x1080 60 Hz mode allowed me to get the race started, and I think at least one other person reporting this problem is using a 32:9 display so maybe a clue?

I have the same crash on an AMD system. I can get about half an hour of gameplay in before the game freezes/stutters every few frames before giving me that DirectX error. There's no specific event or area it happens; it can be on free-roam, a race, drift, takeover event, during a pursuit, any time of day. Even gotten it in the menus as I was about to close the game

So far I've done everything suggested here and by EA support. All that's left is reinstalling my OS, but even that I don't trust will resolve the issue. I also tried on another computer with similar hardware and got the same error on both...

    @Scootaloose

If you have an AMD system then take a look at this post from the other DX 12 error thread, there's a post by reitilein in there around page 15 that worked for me twice, I only had to do it twice because i ended up resetting my pc, but both times ive followed his steps it has worked, Its just a bit tedious to do (15-20 mins start to finish) if you follow this start to finish you should be able to play with no problem (Ryzen 9 5950X, Radeon 6700 XT here)

    The Post:

    Solution that worked for me.

    AMD Ryzen 9 5900x

    AMD Raedon 6700XT

    Win 10 until now

First I flashed my bios to the newest version. Took me about 20 Minutes if M-Flash (usb stick).

Now I deleted the 2x dx12 files (shadercache in steam games directory and c:user:nfs-unbound directory)

After That I downloaded the AMD cleanup utility tool and the ccleaner (test version).

Also the AMD GPU Driver 22.11.2 (that was a mistake, even when NFSU is now supported, it lagged like hell in the game with this driver)

    ---> use 22.5.1 (1 before 22.11.2)

Now I started AMD cleanup utility tool

--> Tool restarts pc in WIn 10 Safety mode. After that all amd drivers will be removed.

--> after that I installed and used cc cleaner (i had no internet connection in safe mode, but i didn´t need it)

I cleared the whole registry with all amd files (i cleared everything, but my pc is still runing...)

Now i press windows+r key and typed "msconfig".

There I choosed "start" and deselected "safe mode". Then I confirmed this.

After that I restarted the pc in normal mode and installed amd 22.5.1 driver.

@KushBeaverTTV I tried your solution and it still crashed... I'm kind of at a loss now. I have a 5950X like yours as well, cleaned out both shader cache locations (despite having no files there, just the folders), and nothing seems to work.

Do you have the link to this thread? I can't seem to find it

  • So I think I found a solution.

Tried all the other suggestions of deleting cache files, reinstalled the game and still crashing when trying to do the Inner City Circuit.

I tried looking behind at the start of the race and for a few hundred meters afterward, and for some reason it actually worked.

I finally got to complete the race.

No idea why it worked, but it did.

I'll have to try it again next time the race comes up, but that was my solution to the constant crashing at the start.
