Do you figure using a controller masking software like DS4Windows would allow PS controllers to work, at least until a solution is implemented?
Edit: after a quick test, DS4Windows does allow a PS controller to work.
Just downloaded and installed DS4winsows and it did not work for me
If you have the game on steam/ have steam open you may need to disable steams controller config in big picture mode or just exit steam.
I have the issue with the Xbox Elite2 controller. I can navigate the menus normally (Tho it still shows keyboard inputs in the prompts. Once I go into the game and attempt to control the car, the left thumbstick just moves the camera around the car and no button is mapped for accelerate. Button remapping would fix this issue.
Ive tried both controllers and both do not work. why cant you just release a working game on launch.. Try play testing games before releasing them, on multiple different systems.
Also cannot play with key board and mouse, car doesn't accelerate and is stuck at 60 mph, with brake light on and car goes by itself, if I'm not giving an input.

@dontarius14 Usually the trial is grabbed from the Standard Edition store page. What system are you on? Can you try resetting your device then double checking that you're on the account with the active EA Play membership, then check again?
