Nhl 23 won't launch on internet?

Hi all,

Recently upgraded from spectrum coax internet to frontier fiber internet.

Before the upgrade game launched just fine, no issues.

After though, the game will not launch if I'm connected to internet.

I've tried resetting the console while keeping games and files, reinstalling nhl, among various other settings tweaks.

If the Ethernet cable is plugged in, game starts to launch, hits the "connecting to ea servers" prompt then boots me back to the Xbox home screen.

Same with wifi.

If I disconnect, I can play the offline stuff just fine.

Do I have to fully factory reset the thing?

    Hey there, @Hellshot13

    Thanks for reaching out. As a test, can you switch your connection to a mobile hotspot and see if that connects? Again, this is just as a test. It'll help narrow down where the issue lies.

    Thanks for doing that. This means the issue is with either your network equipment or ISP. Next, go to the network settings screen on your Xbox and let me know what it says for the NAT and IPv. Also, make sure UPnP is enabled on your router.

  • NAT type is open, IPv4 being used. Upnp is enabled.

    But you know what I just realized, when we switched over to frontier, I attached a pihole to the router, instead of to each device I wanted to use.
    Let me test this out and see if it's maybe causing the issue.

  • Disabling the pihole allows me to play while on internet.

    Are you able to share with me the IP address of the servers I'm connecting to so that I can add it to my allow list within pihole?

    @Hellshot13

    That would be the issue then. Unfortunately, we're not able to give out the IPs of our servers.
