suggestion Goalie System

I want to make a big post about the goalie game. I think it's clear to everyone that the goalie game is not perfect, let's try to figure out why.

Animations.

Animations in the game are not tied to the puck, clubs, posts, situations. By themselves, they are good enough, but this is just the beginning and the basis for creating a good game.

Covering the puck.

There is a problem of getting up before covering the puck. In the butterfly, before covering, the body is lifted, which often leads to a goal.

From a lying position, there is often no covering.

There is no covering from most animations. Although covering is the main function of a confident game.

for some there is no auto cover, for some manual cover does not work either (due to lowering the buttons)

We can't cover the puck lying in front of our nose. This makes goalie feel helpless.

puck under glove, but no cover

manual cover not work press triangle - lift body animation staring

auto cover not work - lift body animation staring

transition between animation bad. no need stand up.

paddle down - auto cover not work

paddle down - manul cover not work (release X, press triangle - lift body animation staring)

sweep no cover

no auto cover

need:

Pokes.

The pokes are not directed at the puck. This is a problem.

Because of this, this function is really useless. Because of this, we get an unrealistic set of goals up close, from behind the gate. This makes goalie feel helpless.

Pucks lying in front of you you can't sweep out.

Goalie's stick goes through the attacker's stick and it really hurts and hurts goalie's soul.

what we need

Interaction with goalposts

This is where we really get to the real pain and a huge point of growth.

Goalpost – goalie's wife, lover and girlfriend. In the NHL 23 – a stranger and a ghost.

We need her.

Look carefully – the main game is goalposts control. Goalpost touch happens hundreds of times, so goalie knows where it is. This is how goalie knows that he controls the short side, this is how moving to the long side happens, this is how we play behind the net.

Quiet game = goalposts. Saves = goalposts. Quick move = goalposts.

Which animations suffer:

Moving

Spread V down

Unhug post  – violation of positioning

Moving between goalposts

The puck behind the net.

Hug posts is a bad animation, which is also a big problem.

goalie protect short side/ Leg on ice/ hole protect glove or blocker.

in game:

Here's how in reality:

Exiting net also suffers due to the lack of interaction with post. You have to do a large radius, it's a long time, it does not allow you to do frequent exit for net.

Playing with the puck

Needs a global side job. Goalie can control the puck, can control the penalty area. Can give or throw the puck backhand forehand. Can send on board. Can pull out the stick and stop the puck, on the line or behind net on board.

Suggestion of corrections.

Poke Check – targeting on the puck (not body direction)

Diving Poke Check – targeting on the puck (not up direction)

Diving Save – depends on post position, must change the length of dive

Spread V-save - targeting on the post

UnHug post  – targeting the post

Behind the net exit - targeting the post

Butterfly – targeting the post if nearby.

Animation’s transition:

Rework cover puck – without getting up. Lying down – body and glove work.

Paddle down – automatic cover. The puck next to sweep under yourself.

Butterfly – exclude lifting of flaps if there is no movement.

Redo “hug posts” animations, make the exit from “hug posts” faster, make the correct position after “hug posts”

suggestion of a new system.

I want to suggestion a new control system:

L2

L2 – connect to post. Add clear feedback - adaptive triggers on dualsenses, short vibration on Xbox. You know exactly what you touched, that you control the post short side.

L2(hold) L (diagonal down) – hug post (VH)

L2(hold) L (diagonal up) – hug post (stand up position)

Right stick – play stick

R down - paddle down

R down (pack located nearby) - pick up for yourself, grab puck

R (side) (puck on blue line or neutral zone) – rebound direction

R (side) (puck behind the net)  - pass control

R (side) (goal crease or around the net) – sweep out puck

R up – poke check/ dump puck

R on free skate – pull stick to stop puck on line and on board.

L1 – desperate move

L1 + L – butterfly slides

L1 + R – dives. Up – diving poke check, Down – Spread V, Left/Right – Diving Save.

R1 I would duplicate the cover. Or I would assign acceleration.

about the problem of static animation.
Hug posts - static. goalie does not react to the puck, to the throw, does not cover the puck
This turns an important function into a decorative one

Besides, you can't in butterfly (hold R2/RT) Hug post. L1/LB does not work.
    You have to release R2/RT -> press L1/LB + LS -> hold R2/RT

This means that it is unrealistic to use it
, plus the above problem, with non-reaction and not covering.

I would pay attention to the length of the path that the goalies body makes. This of course worsens the subsequent positioning in the goal.

in general, all these points clearly indicate that the goalie system is outdated, requires a complete redesign from scratch.
All the richness of animations and features does not work as it should.

    p.s.
From here, crutches grow - incorrect animation work, leads to a twist of parameters.
recover - should show how quickly the animation is canceled and the goalie returns to the position.
5 hole - how quickly the animation is interrupted and such a puck is played.
    and the like.

now - we catch what can't be caught,
we don't catch what can't be missed.
we need to configure the screens system. due to this, the number of goals scored should increase, the protection system will be rebuilt.
The system of working with long-range throws.
The system of working with one-timers, make it necessary to anticipate, and not just stay sitting.

    Yes, the trailer is indeed.
    instinct system - perfectly
    saw the covers - perfectly
did not see the legs through the post - excellent

but the basic animation of the huge post is terrible again

jony's goal due to poor animation
