AI/CPU logic is so bad that it actively ruins the game.

The logic that controls 10 or 11 players on the ice any given time hasn't been improved in the 15 years that I've been playing these games. The management that prioritizes awful presentation changes over the most important aspect of gameplay year after year needs to get gone.

The CPU decision making in the neutral and defensive zones this year seem far worse than any previous game. Defensemen and backcheckers will actively stop when defending a rush, just to make sure they get beat. Never before have I seen the CPU skate the opposite direction they should be going so often.

Constructive Feedback:

Lay off anyone who worked on the presentation changes that actively made the game worse, and use that money to hire a CPU logic developer who has watched a game of hockey at least once in his life.

Sadly, there is no chance that AI gets improved in this series.   The HUT people want AI to be nonexistent and extremely passive so that they don't impact the outcomes of "competitive" games, and the other popular game mode - WOC - is intended to be played with all human controlled players.  Those are really the only two modes that the majority of effort is put into.

@Jagavekov in that case, the number of users in the hut would decrease again. the ideal would be to make more similar modes, as you might think, this is the only way to save the game.
  • @runRAGEdotEXE While I agree with your second paragraph, telling the community manager that he should tell the dev team to "lay people off" is not really 'constructive feedback' lol.

That said: I think you brought up one of the MOST egregious AI behaviors they've programmed into the game. To be clear, I'm referring to when a team is about to go on the rush through the neutral zone and they pass it rink-wide to the far-side winger, and the defensive AI for some reason takes a step or two FORWARD, giving the offensive winger just enough space to burn him with speed. That kind of stuff is so lame. Either you switch to that D man even before the pass is made (so your prediction could be wrong) or you wait until the pass is made and switch and then get stuck in the pre-baked route that the AI was set on taking, effectively giving that extra room to the winger anyway.

I'd love for the Community Manager to explain why this is a programmed behavior in this game. If they come back and tell us that it's supposed to be like that to create more chances for the offense, I won't agree with it but I'll at least accept that it's intentional.
