Passing question w/ video

https://twitter.com/boredjason/status/1736976856560046140?s=46&t=VDcTiKkgVNHIhpeMzhe1jg

So can someone explain to me why when I’m attempting to pass towards my center (29) that not only does the pass avoid him, it doesn’t even go to the secondary target 👿 which I would’ve been ok with passing to, instead it’s going to the far D coming into the play behind the defender???? It in turn sets up a 2 on 0 breakaway for the CPU. What are we doing? The speed of the pass shouldn’t have mattered in this scenario either because if it was too fast one of the two *should* attempt to stop it right?? It’s almost equivalent to some of the early clips I posted in late October/ early November with the teammate lifting their skate even though that player was the intended target of the pass

  • This is likely because EA's passing system is based on their bad understanding of hockey strategy and not based on where you're aiming your passes at all. I find my guys try to cycle the puck (straight to a defender) more likely than creating space, which is quintessential to hockey...just ask the Great One. Also they still don't seem to understand defensive positioning and when passes get intercepted or blocked vs when they get through. It's damn near impossible to feed the slot in this game yet if you look at NHL analytics, like 70% of scoring chances come from the slot - this means either NHL defenders aren't defending right or the EA team isn't programming right...your pick?

    @EA_AljoI get this but despite calculations, why doesn't the puck simply go to the player you direct it to, even with pass assist at 100? Rather it arbitrarily goes to a direction based on the strategy chosen many times and frankly ends up going directly to the cpu players. I simply want passes to go to who I aim them to go to! BTW these are NHL players right? I get Draisaitl is a better passer than Joe Shmo but at the same time, these guys earn a living on this and most of them can pass EXTREMELY accurately when given a nanosecond...why can't the game reflect (and reSPECT) this? Ultimately passing should be more based on the choice of the user and not as much on the stats of the player.

    @EA_Aljo I’ve moved the pass assist slider down to 33% but I’m still seeing this problem. Not as often as before but when the AI is skating near each other, it’s usually goes to the player in the worse position/ the lesser shooter of the two

    @BoredJason13

    Lowering your pass assist means you need to be more precise with your aim. As far as players letting passes through when they shouldn't be goes, the team is looking into this.

    @EA_Aljo Oh yes I completely understand that. I’ve had a couple times where I know I missed a pass by a lot because I definitely didn’t aim properly
