Yeah, there is actually very few players who wear it out of their mouths IRL, the problem is that some of them are higher profile players, drawing more attention to it. The league actually does require that mouthguards be in your mouth while on the ice, sadly this is not being enforced. It also means that young players see this and suddenly they think it is cool and then they start doing this as well. What would make them start enforcing it is if we start seeing kids getting hurt because of the lack of mouthguards, sadly this is an inevitability if this trend continues, and video games, should NOT be encouraging this. Seriously, parents of a child who gets hurt because of not properly wearing a mouthguard, should be suing the NHL as well as any video game companies that are encouraging this type of behaviour through complicity. Mouthgaurds not only protect your teeth, they also help in reducing jarring if your chin strikes the ice, a shoulder, elbow, stick, puck, etc, which has an impact on concussions. With all of the "awareness" they are drumming up about concussions long term effects on the brain, including depression and suicide, one would think the league and gaming companies would want to discourage this type behaviour and not encourage it and promoting it. Its time that this actually be taken seriously, before it comes to serious injury.
