Cannot Exit Offline Practice Mode

I created a practice (breakout) session 2 on 2 with my son on second player. We cannot complete the practice and we are not able to exit the session. Upon rebooting the Xbox puts us right back in to the practice session; skipping the main startup menu. While in the practice session nothing will bring up the menu to quit. How do we get out of this? At this point I cannot play the game because of this stuck loop.
