Every time I try to start the next game on the schedule, it crashes. It allows me to select the team, home and away jerseys, and then when I press start, it sends me to the Xbox home screen the game ...

It’s still crashing. I even deleted the game and reinstalled it. Hopefully you have more options 😬

Unfortunately, there's nothing else I can suggest. Your save is most likely corrupt. You'll need to start over in that case. Make sure that you're always saving and exiting when you're done instead of switching to another game, app or just putting your console in sleep mode.
