Always let out a bittersweet chuckle every time I see these yearly posts - Everyone says they'll never play again but 9.9 times out of ten they'll be back (and usually sooner rather than later). Regardless of player count, it's, in my humble opinion, the HUT whales (really, ANYONE who spends a single dime extra), who will make sure the game stays afloat for better or much, much worse.
Also, anyone is free to use the NHL license if they're looking forward to burning a multi-billion dollar hole in their pocket

the amount of high level WOC players I know that have called it quits is really concerning. As for HUT keeping them afloat, I credit that more to the dopamine that comes from gambling than the gameplay itself. I really think we’re in a 3-4 year range of WOC being completely dead. The lack of common sense with decision making in the game all-around, but especially in WOC (gameplay being inspired by bumper cars instead of hockey, arcade enthusiasts instead of hockey enthusiasts I.e. the impact a simple badge can have, not separating drop-in rank from club rank, the same annoying and time-wasting dressing room bugs being in the game for what is now 10+ releases, the list goes on and on) makes it hard to have any optimism with this product. So laugh for now, but the FACT that EANHL is losing crucial parts of their core player base that are here for more than a dopamine hit in their casino cough cough I mean HUT, when they have absolutely ZERO competition, is just the start of what’s to come.
