Be A Pro Goalie Backup

What’s with my goalie going into games as the backup, after the starter gets pulled, and I can’t control him? Because I have to sim the game since I’m not starting that night. And my goalie gets HOSED. If there’s a chance of a goalie going into the game, I should be able to play as my goalie, right? Am I missing something? Am I making TOO much sense? Or none at all? If I’m dressing, and sitting on the bench, let me sim the game like I’m on the bench as a skater awaiting my shift.
