I'm playing a game right now and decided to experiment. I have the difficulty starting out on superstar. when my player got on the ice, I changed the difficulty to rookie. needless to say I scored 1 goal with 1 shot. I then put it back on superstar. my offense coaches rating before the goal was 50%. after the goal it was 67%, an increase of 17%. during the period, I check and my defense score and it was at 57% (55% was target). during that shift, I blocked a shot (which showed a +36 XP for blocked shot), then a few moments later I had a poke check (+15 XP to poke check). my defense coaches score went from 57% to a measly 61%. only 4% increase. this just goes to show that the game is very very very goal oriented which is so unrealistic it's pitiful. oh and just after the poke check, I creamed someone for a Big Hit (+36 XP for body check) and went from 70% teamplay to only 74%. everything should be even across the board. please change it to coaches rating. please. and I have video clips to back this up
